Eufaula lake.... I shot this the other evening as a rain storm was approaching and thought it made an interesting B+W image. Looks like it may have come across a little dark. Sometimes, it seems to me, the tones and colors change a little during the conversion to jpeg. I do think the color version of this shot is pretty cool too. I had a hard time deciding which version to post. As always comments and constructive criticism are appreciated. Have a great holiday weekend....... This one really does look much better large on black!!

I had to scramble through a bit of bush to find this spot. I could hear it from where I was camping and had to find it!
Le Styx, Grand Canyon du Verdon: lieu nommé ainsi par le spéléologue français Édouard-Alfred Martel, lors de son exploration du Verdon, avec une équipée d'hommes et de matériel, en 1905. Le « Styx » est dans la mythologie grecque, l'un des fleuves menant aux Enfers. Le lieux est signalé par une plaque de bois posée sur un rocher. Cet endroit est un mini canyon, à l'intérieur du Grand Canyon. On y voit des vasques et des marmites creusées par l'érosion dans la roche calcaire blanche des gorges. Le Verdon y coule lentement et y est d'un vert émeraude profond. Il faut être très prudent en ce lieu, afin de ne pas tomber dans la rivière.

Deep in the heart of the Styx Valley in southern Tasmania.
The area has been extensively logged but a tiny remnant of the original forest exists as a reserve for big trees.
It is easily accessible to Hobart - only slightly over an hour's drive to be surrounded by a forest so much older than you. If you visit Mount Field National Park then it behooves you to do the extra 30mins up the road into the Styx Reserve. After a visit it's not hard to see why the logging of these forests has been a source of unrest for many years.
The Styx itself is a modest river but it's a deep, dark brown like strong tea or old whiskey. The colouring comes from tannins leached out of the button grass plains in the river's catchment.

A shot taken in one of the most popular locations of Scotland the faery pools with Javier de la Torre. I searched a different point of view instead of the classical green pools, that I am sure you are tired of them or at least you have seen the pools a thousand of times. The changing weather and the dramatic conditions were perfect for this kind picture that has reminded me an image from the Greek mythology of the river Styx, the river of sacred oath and hatred, boundary between Earth and the Underworld.
