A bit of History:
Diego de Almagro founded Santiago de Quito on August 15, 1534, later to be renamed San Francisco de Quito on August 28, 1534.
The city was later moved to its present location and was refounded on 6 December 1534 by 204 settlers led by Sebastián de Benalcázar, who captured Rumiñahui and effectively ended any organized resistance.[6] Rumiñahui was then executed on January 10, 1535. On March 14, 1541, Quito was declared a city and on February 14, 1556, was given the title Muy Noble y Muy Leal Ciudad de San Francisco de Quito ("Very Noble and Loyal City of San Francisco of Quito"), starting at this point its urban evolution.
In 1563, Quito became the seat of a Real Audiencia (administrative district) of Spain and became part of the Viceroyalty of Peru, until 1717 after the Audiencia was part of a newly created Viceroyalty of Nueva Granada. Its administration on both Viceroyalties remained to Quito. (see Real Audiencia de Quito)
As with other places colonized by the Spanish, the colonizers promptly established Roman Catholicism in Quito. The first church (El Belén) was in fact built even before the city had been officially founded. In January 1535, the San Francisco Convent was constructed, the first of about 20 churches and convents built during the colonial period. The Spanish converted the indigenous population to Christianity.

I guess this is one of the spots where Metro might got inspired.
A car made in India - I couldn't work out what sort of car it was, but it looked like a typical 1950s/60s style. The interior was totally upholstered in embroidered, mirrored gorgeousness!! And there were plastic flowers adorning the bumpers! The strangest, and thoroughly appealing sight!!

This was a very difficult high dynamic range image to deal with, the "bunker" was well over exposed and the rock work of the bridge in deep shadow. I have managed to save it from the bin. This is actually the entrance to a mystery property buried in the rainforest behind Cedar Creek which runs into the Samford Valley west of Brisbane's suburbs. It's certainly out there isn't it, I can't imagine what the house is like with such an imposing entrance.
View On Black Have just spent 5 days and travelled 6000 km in the Australian outback, words cannot even begin to describe what I have seen and experienced, and this amazing sunset was captured while driving back to civilization....no colour enhancing here or HDR, its completely as was!!!
This really is the trip of a lifetime!!!!

Early this morning coming back in from the daily walk I had this swallow circling me. Pretty soon the Tree Swallow’s wide gliding radius became tighter and tighter to the point he/she was within a few feet of me.
He/she was so close that my darn lens set at 150mm couldn’t even focus on him/her. I was able to tweak the lens down to 95 and basically danced in circles with the Tree Swallow’s flight path which then allowed me to get focus and I was blessed with this capturer. :)
This church was designed in the neo-Gothic style by the architect Gustave Hansotte and inaugurated on October 23, 1876. Listed monument since October 9, 2003.
In the background, the office skyscrapers of Brussels' World Trade Center district are still alive…

having bluebirds nesting near the house alerted me to the fact that in addition to vocalizations, birds "talk with their hands". the bluebird was looking at her mate and spreading the wings in a sequence that must mean something to him. they do that more often than all the others species nesting or feeding on our property. at present they are feeding brood two, with five chicks. three survived from brood one and are hanging out together by the mealworm feeder.
