I signed up to be part of a study at Umass in the University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Kinesiology. The first part of the study was actually a stress to see if I was a candidate.
"The Exercise Physiology Lab is conducting a research study to develop more effective methods for estimating energy expenditure during the day using accelerometers. The study involves 2-3 laboratory visits to assess your resting metabolic rate, body composition and energy expenditure while performing a variety of physical activities. Older subjects (men over 40 years of age; women over 50 years of age) will also have a medically supervised stress test to screen for heart disease prior to their participation in the study. Subjects will receive compensation for their active participation as well as valuable information about their current health status."
Passing the stress test was easy. Keeping from falling off the treadmill was not! P1133530

Used for the study of radiological and environmental samples, EMSL's Bruker wide-bore 750 MHz solids/liquids/imaging nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, or 750 MHz NMR, is housed in the EMSL Radiochemistry Annex. The 750 MHz NMR is the highest field radiological NMR system in the world. This instrument allows real-world, radionuclide-containing samples to be investigated rather than proxy, or model systems. In addition, this system offers a unique high-field bioreactor environment for live, in situ microbial system multinuclear imaging.
EMSL’s Radiochemistry Annex is designed to accelerate scientific discovery and deepen the understanding of the chemical fate and transport of radionuclides in terrestrial and subsurface ecosystems. EMSL is a Department of Energy national scientific user facility located at PNNL.
