Well yesterday I attempted to follow Joel Grimes's video tutorials. I have not tried to do the HDR background yet to put me in it. But I have photomatix as Joel uses, and have his tutorial videos. So I am trying to start learning his techniques. My lighting was a bit screwy yesterday with how Joel sets up, but today I did a bit more of his three light set up. Followed some of what he does in his tutorial videos. I think this one turned out better then yesterday, but its still a ways to go till I feel like its how I want it. My background here is a bit weird, but if I were to drop myself into an HDR background then this background would be erased. Anyways, here is another attempt at Joel Grimes

using a very much reduced set up (a small sheet of black vinyl background on my desk) and just one light today I took few shots of a new lure. Eventually i picked this one because is an unusual view, and most of all because I like the strange and distorted reflection under its belly.

As I'm not good with asking people to pose for portraits, and I really suck at taking portraits, I decided to sit down in front of the camera for this one. A bit difficult to nail with wide open aperature. Thought a bit of a high key look would work for this. While not a true high key, I thought it kind of worked here in b&w.
