An amazing photographer once told me that the best poses are the ones that hurt a bit. That hasn't ALWAYS been true....but in this case, it really was. I had sore abs the next day but I love the shot because it's different. The best thing about experimenting is getting something you haven't done before. And after 18 years of modeling, I'm finding there is still so much to do!

With studio lights blasting an amaryllis with two stalks. Alaska version.
My husband continues to coax and nurture these same bulbs to bloom.
I woke up one morning about a month ago with this exact image in my mind. I wanted something that depicted the heartache behind Cancer, as well as the endless anger, pain and frustration.
It's a battle for everyone involved - the person fighting it and the people that love them. And even though you try to remain strong, some days are more of a struggle than others and that's what I hoped we could convey in this image.
A huge thank you to these two amazing people who brought this concept to life with their professionalism, raw talent and compassion. You two are invaluable. Thank you so much.

At Studio Five Photography, Quedgeley, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom, on Tuesday 5th December 2023.
About the photograph.
Eirwen is wearing her own black, off-shoulder dress with her black stockings, likely to be hold ups, and heels, along with a red feather boa.
I only asked that she wear a smart black dress like as if attending a cocktail party, and the red feather boa which I bought along. I let her decide on the rest of the outfit as she sees fit, thus she chose the stockings and what looks like a pearl necklace.
The purpose of her posing is partial for just portrait photography, and partial for use as graphic design assets for a graphic design project I will be doing later when I get the chance. The general theme was evening dress and feather boa, like during a formal event or a cocktail party.
I booked Eirwen for a two hours photo-shoot in and around Gloucester, and the photo-shoot was split into two sections.
The first section lasting an hour, was an outdoor photo-shoot done at a hotel just outside of Gloucester, with special thanks to the hotel staff for letting me use their location.
After the first section was done, I drove us to a studio on the south-west side of Gloucester, for the second section. It was where I booked an hour at Studio Five Photography, for the indoor photo-shoot.
As I’ve done mainly outdoor photo-shoots during the majority of my time doing photography, I hardly have much experience in studio lighting, so the owner set up the lighting and prepare them for me.
Even though I’m a deaf person with speech impaired, and there were communications difficulties, the photo-shoot actually went well, as Eirwen was able to understand what I want her to do. She gave a positive feedback on the model booking website where I found her from.
Many special thanks to Studio Five Photography for the hire of the studio plus support with the setting up.

Sometimes photographs are about creating a mood or a scene. Sometimes you don't know what it is until you get shooting and then just go with ideas as they naturally occur - which pretty much always happens when you're shooting with another creative. Such is how this shot came about.

Lens: Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM on the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.
Light: Large clamshell setup with the Elinchrom ELC 1000 through a large beauty dish from the front-top-side, which creates the metallic contrast in her face. Elinchrom ELC 500 with small horizontal strip box from the front-bottom-side, to lower the density of some shadows. Elinchrom ELC 500 through a vertical Elinchrom Livemotiv large strip from the right-back and an Elinchrom ELB400 with action head, dish and grid from the left-back. I measured the light with the Sekonic L-758DR.
Postprocessing: Some local adjustment curves, some local cloning.
