The residents of 94 Wakelee Rd were awaken early Thanksgiving morning to smoke and fire in their second floor condo. Upon dispatch the Waterbury ERC reported that they were getting multiple calls on the fire and the first arriving crews found heavy fire coming from the second floor on the A side of the building. Coupling this with the common attic construction of the 2 story wood frame building command immediately asked for an additional engine and truck company to assist companies on scene. A water supply was established, the roof laddered, and aggressive inward push was made to quickly bring the fire under control. Primary searches by the rescue company were reported as negative as the truck companies trench cut the roof to ventilate and get at any additional hot spots that might be in the attic. The fire was contained to the one unit but there was smoke and water damage in the adjacent condos. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation by the fire marshal's office

The skeleton structure (posts, beams and braces) is now complete. Now we have to put the roof on, and also build the stud-framework for three sides.

Upon entering Altun Ha the first feature that caught our eye was this impressive mound to the right, facing Plaza A, known as Structure A-6. Less is know about this mound that the other structures in Plaza A due to its great size and poor condition. It is thought that an earlier building may be hidden deep within what appears to be an earthen mound.

Archeologists believe that the entire mass may have been raised in just two stages, between 550 and 600 AD. Adjoining Structure A-6 is a smaller low mound known as A-7. It is in the northeast corner of the plaza.

These neglected and abandoned structures in upper Over-the-Rhine front Vine Street at its intersection with Clifton Avenue. Both across the street and further up the two hills on both Vine Street and Clifton Avenue are dozens more such buildings, which offer a good location midway between the Uptown and Downtown employment centers, but also remain neglected and/or abandoned. Several of these structures date to the mid-to-late 19th Century, but there are a few that were built as late as the 1920s or 1930s in this area, most of which are in need of substantial renovation, and many of which are for sale. Hopefully these buildings will get the attention they deserve soon. Another interesting feature of this intersection are a set of public steps that head up Mount Auburn from the East side of Vine Street, one of many such sets of steps in this area of the city that connect the hills to the downtown basin.
