Structural Empowerment Community Engagement Subgroup been empowered to help in BLM movement and therefore achieved to receive over 3,000 donations in masks. On October 23, 2020, in partnership with Social Justice Learning Institute the group served over 260 families in mask and food distribution at Inglewood Community. The mask donations will service every Friday of the week to families who are in dire need of food and mask resources.
My understanding is that the X-in-a-square you sometimes see painted on a vacant building warns firefighters that the structure is compromised and should not be entered unless absolutely necessary.
Maybe you need a civil engineer when you die. Not too many people today rest in peace by being exposed.
First responders from across the country were in Virginia Beach for a massive structural collapse training exercise hosted by the Virginia Beach Fire Department and Virginia Task Force 2. The annual School was held at the sprawling complex of crawl spaces and staged disaster zones representing different scenarios – things first responders have seen and experienced first-hand. This course gives urban search and rescue teams a chance to practice their skills. More than 160 people took part in the hands-on training lasting for 8 days with students coming from as far as San Francisco, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware.

Structural 3D BIM models for precast concrete modeling and detailing provides higher visualization, augmented accuracy, accurate cost estimation, and construction sequencing.
This case study shows the advantages of adopting 3D BIM modeling and Rebar shop drawings with 5mm coordination for M60 concrete grade. The use of 3D BIM models ensured quick TAT, 100% accuracy, the enhanced manufacturing quality of precast elements, cost savings, and more. bit.ly/3uFkTVK

1) "Provided is an overview of the analytical method known as structuralism. The first chapter discusses the three key components of the concept of a structure: the view of a system as a whole instead of so many parts; the study of the transformations in the system; and the fact that these transformations never lead beyond the system but always engender elements that belong to it and preserve its laws. Subsequent chapters illustrate this concept as it appears in mathematics and logic (group theory, general algebra); physics and biology (structural models of causality, homeostasis); psychology (the laws of Gestalt, the structure of intelligence); linguistics (synchronics, generative grammars); social sciences (analytic, global and anthropological structuralism); and philosophy (dialectic, epistemology)."(Jean Piget)
2) This quote explains and gives examples of what structuralism is and how it is defined. Piget articulates that parts within the structure never go beyond the structure, but instead acts as a part that makes the structure complete. Also, Piget states examples like how mathematics and logic are view individually but instead really belongs to the structure of-group theory and/or general algebra.
3) The photo shows an example of structuralism in a quite unusal way. It shows a man that has labeled everything with paint, and states," Now! That should clear up a few things around here!" This photo and text are quite humorous because though the man labeled everything and believes that this will clearly define and separate the items, they all belong to a structure in his life which act collaboratively to form one entity-his life. This photo also shows that language and how we identify things is not a separate as we believe. The dog can only be a dog, because it is not the tree. All of these items function together in a structure which allows us to understand their function.
I present the following facts:
1. Insomnia sucks. I remember looking at the clock at 3AM, awoke again at 4AM and tossed and turned, and finally got up at 5AM. The alarm wasn't set until 7:10 AM. I am wondering if it has something to do with caffeine, which I don't normally consume, but I've had erm, 3+ espressos a day for the last week to be social with my coworkers?
2. It's currently 28F outside. And windy. And the low tonight will be 22F. Can I get a WTF?
3. I think I'm really going to miss this place when I go.
Al Mudhif - A Confluence is a collaboration of Sarah Kavage and Philadelphia-based artist Yaroub Al-Obaidi to build a mudhif at SCEE, possibly the first such structure to be built in North America! A mudhif is a traditional Iraqi ceremonial structure, made of bundled and woven marsh-growing reeds, that serves as a hospitality and celebration space. Our mudhif will be made from invasive Phragmites reeds that were locally harvested nearby. Small groups can go inside with masks and distancing, additional structures outside the mudhif create an outdoor gathering area too.

Life has variety of structures. Sometimes two of these structures collide and something new come into existence. This was one of those moments!
Construction is the realization of great architectural ideas. At the moment the shovel first pierces the ground, the abstracted journey of design gets translated into its literal counterpart. Structural steel columns, beams, and cross bracing work in symphony to mimic the swirling dynamic of pencil sketches, parti models, and visualization technologies. This series of photographs describes and highlights a clear translation from idea to reality, capturing a specific moment of time and exposing the bones of precedent thought. This photograph is #3 in the series of 5.
Photograph was taken during the construction of BMW Welt in Munich, Germany.

Bombay Beach, Salton Sea, California
Bombay Beach is an interesting town along the eastern shore of the Salton Sea. A small community still resides in the half abandoned town. Some time ago, shifting water levels flooded the town and a wall was built around it to keep high tides out.
This area of town exists on the outside of the wall and it was once a trailer/RV park. Somehow, it became buried under several feet of mud and sand -- trailers and all.
It seems as though the water level is higher than it once was. All of this stuff was out in the lake -- stuff that usually isn't planted in the water on purpose. It's interesting seeing power line poles with no lines attached, and others with the lines laying on the ground.
Cracking, horizontal and vertical displacement of the brickwork for the outer platform shelter structures at Armadale station. The station is of one of four similarly designed ones between Caulfield and South Yarra built as part of a large scale project to lower the rail lines to remove numerous level crossings and expand the section of line from two to four tracks.
The stations at Malvern, Armadale, Toorak and Hawksburn were built to a common design by James W Hardy and were completed in 1914 with the quadruplication work coming into service in October 1915. The stations consist of a central island platform with outer side platforms all linked by a pair of enclosed footbridges. A similarly designed example is located at Camberwell on the Lilydale/Belgrave lines.
In recent years the shelters on the outer platforms have had cracking in the brickwork and significant horizontal movement, particularly near the arch structures over the platform entrances - which themselves have all been supported by a steel insert pinned at multiple locations into the brickwork. In many cases there have been survey markers placed to monitor the progression of movement.
In addition an elevated shop built at the top of the station platform facing Cheel Street also has major problems with differential settlement and has been held together with an enclosed steel frame at the top parapet of the structure with the three brick columns at the rear on the platform supported by steel props with temporary fencing around the platform side. The Armadale Village Deli which traded from the site was forced to 'temporarily' move owing to the unsafe condition of the structure.
