Golden Chain Tree (Laburnum anagyroides vulgare) [...] is a beautiful tree, with long wisteria-like yellow flowers that present in late Spring, followed by long stringy pods. Flowers of Laburnum anagyroides vulgare are 4-8 inches long. Laburnum is commonly used in garden pergolas to form luxurious floral passage ways.

We found this witch hazel aka hamamelis coming into flower in the winter garden at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens.
Its strange flowers with small centres and long stringy petals always fascinate me. When full out, their scent is pervasive.

The subjects are plastic jelly moulds stacked up underneath the kitchen tap. The tap is turned on with a slow drip and I just fired away...after many shots, this is the best with two stringy drops on different levels.
There a 2 light sources , the kitchen ceiling light and a spot light at 8 o'clock.

Theme: Cheese
Size: Less than 3x3 inches
We don't eat a lot of cheese but I found a packet of Tasty cheese in our fridge.
I warmed a few strips of the Tasty cheese in the microwave and while it is still warm I pulled at it to produce stringy cheese.
I manage to attached the stringy ends to the base of two spoons that are placed slightly apart.
The subject looks like a bacteria with filaments !
The only light source is natural light through the window. I used a green cloth for the background.

Chaos embodied in a young Redbud Tree, Cercis canadensis, planted between the road and the old woodland in Cullinan Park, Sugar Land, Texas. Reminded me of the stringy distribution of Dark Matter on a cosmic scale, and of Vincent van Gogh’s “Flowering Plum Tree” (after Hiroshige, 1887), and especially “Almond Blossom” (1890), painted just before his death. Saw an exhibit of his work at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam some decades ago, which was interspersed with work by his contemporaries, treating similar subjects in not too dissimilar styles. On every wall, the merest glance would suffice to identify van Gogh, which invariably jumped out of the crowd to grab my attention.

Along with several other genera in the tribe Eucalypteae, including Corymbia, they are commonly known as eucalypts. Is Rhubarb a Vegetable or a Fruit? Rhubarb is a vegetable often thought to be a fruit. There's actually a good reason for this confusion: in 1947 the USDA classified it as a fruit because the tariffs on bringing fruits into the country were lower on fruits than vegetables.
Female Baltimore orioles are looking for nesting material now. Long stringy fibers are favored for her fancy weaving.
Notice the long black stringy beard dangling down from this male's chest. Hens don't grow beards. His body feathers show a nice colorful sheen in the bright sunlight.
Let's take a moment to reflect. What's stringy and holey and orange all over? Look into my crystal (well, metal) ball for the clue. Obviously the ball isn't the subject matter because you can clearly see what that is. The subject surrounds the ball and is inside it via its reflection. Too easy, hey?! HMM!
I am the happiest person alive today. My two favorite stores did a collaboration for this round of Epiphany and I've been happy dancing all day (I think I annoyed my brother to death hohoho). This is like a dream come true and I love what they made. Such. amazing. work!

Long ago there lived a very old man.
This old man loved money and was so mean that he wouldn’t spend money on a barber or scissors.
He let his hair and beard grow so long it trailed along the ground as he walked.
Sometimes he even tripped over his beard but he didn’t care. He still wouldn’t spend money on scissors no matter how many times he fell over it.
He wouldn’t eat more than one egg, one crust of bread, one carrot and one apple each day so that he could save money to get more gold.
This old man loved gold and had collected so much of it that his house was full.
He could hardly get inside his own front door. He had to squeeze in past the piles of gold. His bed was so full of gold he couldn’t sleep.
Still, it wasn’t enough for him and one day he went out and got more gold.
He was crossing a meadow with a huge sack of gold when a group of fairies noticed his long hair and beard trailing in the distance.
Curious, they flew closer and saw that his sack was full to the top of shiny gold coins.
Just that day the fairies had been building a house.
The house was round so they were looking for something to make a round roof.
They decided that a gold coin would make a perfect roof for their house.
They told the old man that if they gave him just one shiny coin they would carry all the gold for him and place it in his house.
They also promised him good luck forever.
But the old man said no and shooed the fairies away.
As he shouted at the fairies his long hair flew about in the wind. The poor fairies had to jump up and down to stop themselves from tripping up over its stringy ends.
The fairies weren’t angry but they saw that the old man needed to learn a lesson about greed.
So they found a long sharp blade of grass and cut a hole in the old man’s sack.
Then with a quick flick of their magic wands, they turned the gold into buttercups.
As the old man walked across the meadow the buttercups tumbled out of his sack and a fairy wind came and blew them all around.
Soon the meadow was yellow with buttercups and all the gold was gone.
The fairies made a roof for their house from buttercups and they all agreed that the buttercup roof was more beautiful than gold.
The 1816 Owens-Thomas House in Savannah,Georgia's historic district.The shot was taken from a tour trolley.The English Regency architectural home was by George Welshman Owens,a local lawyer,and one-time mayor of Savannah,for $10,000 at the time.The Thomas family maintained the house for several decades until,a granddaughter of Owens,Margaret Thomas,bequeathed it to the Telfair Museum of Art in 1951.In 1825,the American Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette stayed as a guest of the Owens at the house,and also addressed the public from the house's unusual cast-iron veranda shown in the front.

The tree you see here is the Southern "Live"Oak (Quercus Virginiana).They are commonly seen on the streets of Savannah,most of which were planted between 1898 and 1925.The tree has stringy Spanish moss hanging from its drooping branches,a little bit of it can be seen near the top of the trunk.Another tree commonly seen on Savannah's streets is the palmetto or "palm"tree.
From the Victorian Heritage Database statement of significance:
"The Port Welshpool Long Jetty was constructed at a site chosen by a Royal Commission on Outer Ports (1927). The jetty and its facilities were identified as key to developing the eastern Bass Strait fisheries and of linking to Tasmania to supply fish to the mainland. Construction began in 1936 and finished in 1938. The jetty was built using yellow stringybark sourced from near Woodside, east of Yarram.
As constructed the jetty was 850m long, with varying widths along its length, the maximum being originally 7.2m, later 9.1m. The jetty was lengthened to 908m in 1982 for the supply of the Bass Strait oil and gas industry. Originally designed to take locomotives, it was built with longitudinal decking supported on bearers with longitudinal beams supported by stringers. It was engineered to take substantial loads, sufficient for steam locomotives on a 5 foot 2 inch gauge rail line. The jetty broadened as it turned in a unique and substantial curve to the Lewis Channel. The raked pile construction provided for a robust structure in contrast to piers and jetties in sheltered bays.
The jetty was purpose-built for coastal traders, but has had a variety of uses, including as a base for mine sweepers during and immediately after WW2; as the home base for the fledgling offshore oil and gas industries in Bass Strait and as a recreational fishing platform. This fledgling snowy egret was trying to fly from branch to branch when I saw it fall. It successfully grabbed long stringy branches that hang down from the eucalyptus tree where they nest. It slowly made its way up to higher branches. I photographed this bird at the W. 9th St. rookery in Santa Rosa, CA.
The tree actually seems to have a face. You can see its nose and mouth, one eye and stringy hair. Mr. Boulder is slumped over facing away from the viewer. Its back and the back of its head showing much like “The Thinker” would appear from behind.
As a kid I planted, as my first gardening attempt, Scarlet Runner Beans. They grew profusely but while pretty, the beans proved to be stringy and unpalatable.
Recently, while visiting a neighbour, I noticed she had the same beans growing up her porch supports and they were attracting a lot of hummingbirds!
This year I planted my own and they make a bright showing of many flowers which indeed attracted both bees and hummingbirds. So far the hummingbirds zip away as soon as my camera is out!
Koalas survive on stringy eucalyptus leaves, which are filled with toxic molecules that render the plant inedible to basically every other living thing. Koalas, though, evolved the ability to flush the toxins out quickly, so they can eat their way through pounds of leaves each day without getting sick. All the energy and chewing requires a lot of energy hence - if you can find one with its eyes open you can count it a lucky day.
A macro image of some interesting looking seeds from a bush a came across on a morning outing. The stringy tails really give these a tadpole like look. Unsure of the ID of this plant so if you happen to know please comment below.

A misty summers morning contrasting with stringy bark trees shedding their bark.
Puffing Billy Railway is in the Dandenong Ranges, 40 KMs (25 miles) East of Melbourne. After leaving Puffing Billy Belgrave Station, the line passes through the lush green Sherbrooke Forest with Stringy Barks and Tree Ferns lining the track. The route is quite a challenge for the locomotives with many sharp curves and steep climbs. It's also a treat for train photographers.

“The Western Juniper (Juniperus occidentalis) is an inhabitant of the upper slopes and is generally found above the Valley rim on exposed rocky sites where its gnarled form picturesquely decorates the bare granite pavements. Scattered specimens may be found struggling upward in most unhospitable places almost to timberline. The characteristics which easily identify the species are (a) its gnarled form, (b) its thin, stringy, light cinnamon-brown bark, (c) its tiny scale-like leaves which are arranged in whorls of three around the branchlets and are closely pressed to the twigs, and (d) its fruit which is a small blue berry with a sweetish, pungent, aromatic taste. The berries are really modified cones.”
Here I am on the bottom of the river nestled into the stringy, parasitic dodder plants looking upward and the fish are swimming above the camera.
The water is so clear you can see the clouds on the horizon and the distorted top of a cypress tree above the fish on the right.
I purposely cropped it so that there was more sky than earth showing, and love the illusion that the one fish looks like it is swimming above the clouds in the air!
I have manipulated the photo to look more like an illustration for a book.

Almost entirely hollowed out. Apparently the target was the seeds more than the wall flesh. Every portion of the pumpkin - including seeds, seed hulls, and stringy membranes - is completely edible to both squirrels and humans.
This knobby pumpkin is just for decoration, but it is just as edible as any other.

Back in the 80s my mum would sew patches onto my jeans when I made the 'fashionable' stringy holes in them. They were TINY holes... not sure what she would have done with these jeans!!!
On a serious note, temperatures are set to plummet in for the coming few days and be several degrees below average for the time of year. With the cost of living crisis in mind, with many living in much colder houses than usual, please keep an eye on the more vulnerable. Hypothermia can be insidious and go unnoticed by those suffering.
