I've got a few more shots from the parade that I'll upload soon (possibly late tonight, since my sleep cycle will be all screwed up again). I've got a couple dozen that would also remove my "safe" rating on flickr, so I'll just leave those be.
This lady I have hennaed her belly twice. She was having contractions while I was doing this design and the baby was active. We paused a lot. I love the stretch marks. Some people don't like them but I got them and grew to love them. It's where my beautiful baby lived for 42 weeks.
I was a little envious of how this lady's belly stained 3+ weeks. Mine stained for 1 week. Big difference. I was so stretched though, maybe that's why.
The OM symbol was just something positive and to sound when she was in labor. My voice naturally was a firm but low "OOOOOHHHHMMMMM."

Happy New Year!
I've decided to pull out the remote and begin this journey in 2010 with many other Flickroos. A self portrait every day for 365 days...hmmm...well the way I feel right now, forcing myself to pick up the camera each day could only improve my photography. So here, on day one, I suck it up (not in) and show my insecurity. Sure, I'd love to be starting this project out a wee bit more svelte and not sporting all this baby chub. That's why weight loss is at the top of my resolutions for the big one-oh (how original, I know).

A mark for every breath you took, every blink, every sleepy yawn. One for every time you sucked your thumb, waved hello, closed your eyes and slept in the most perfect darkness. One for every time you had the hiccups. One for every dream you dreamed within me.
It isn't very pretty anymore. Some may even think it ugly. That's OK. It was your home. It's where I first grew to love you, where I lay my hand as I dreamed about who you were and who you would be. It held you until my arms could, and for that, I will always find something beautiful in it.

Painted red on the outside, blood gleaming off what's left on the casing instead of glimmering underneath. I'd move and flex and watch my muscles contract. Pull from bone and veins and itself. I'd pull out a rib and a lung. A stretch of muscle to feel the texture in my hands. I'd coax my heart out, hold it in my hands, and watch it beat. Breathe. Whisper.
