The Pakistan Strategy Support Program (PSSP) held the conference, “Increasing Productivity and Unleashing Growth” at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad on May 26-27th, 2012. This conference also marked the final round of the Competitive Grants Program that was launched by PSSP in January 2012 for Pakistani PhD and graduate students studying locally and abroad on economic development issues of Pakistan. The finalists presented in front of the Research Advisory Committee, donor heads, professors and students from local universities. The event also consisted of plenary sessions on Pakistan’s various economic growth issues by renowned academics from all over the world, such as Dr. Jock Anderson, Dr. Regina Birner and Dr. David Spielman.

The weather was really bad today, which made me really unhappy that I wasn't in Malaysia or Singapore. The original plan was to be there, but it didn't work out. So, we were stuck in Nagasaki in the pouring rain. Our backup plan was to go to Iwajima today, which didn't happen either because of the rain. In the end, we decided to go to the office to watch movies.
For dinner, my host family decided to go out for グルグル寿司。That is a rotating sushi bar. The little plates of sushi come by, and you can take whichever ones you want. I think it's my favorite kind of restaurant in Japan. I love the fact that the sushi is on a conveyer belt. And, there is a hot water spout right in front of you, so you can keep making your own tea as you drink it. I had banana cream crepes for dessert, and I had to wait a while for them because people kept taking them off the belt before it got to me. It was worth the wait.
After that, my host sister and I made purikura twice. I love that I have a 9 year old host sister. Her conversational level is not so much more advanced than mine. She is usually too shy to speak to me in Japanese though, so she usually asks her mom to ask me for her. Today she had to speak to me directly though, because it was just the two of us making purikura. I had a very japanese evening.
Tomorrow I will be going to an American Thanksgiving party with my friends. I am expecting to see all the foreigners in Nagasaki there. We are making Kendall take us because we don't want to go by ourselves. I think it should be fun. Hey, it's not Malaysia, but at least there will be turkey.

Trust is an underlying condition for the EU Digital Single Market and without a credible cybersecurity strategy, there will be no trust. In February 2013, the Commission published a cybersecurity strategy alongside a proposed Directive on network and information security (NIS). The latter is currently in trialogue negotiations. The next trialogue is foreseen for June 9. The discussions have revealed a great lack of mutual trust between Member States, which prevents them from cooperating and thus protecting Europeans.
The hearing will serve to raise public awareness about the current situation in the EU and make stakeholders face up to their responsibilities. It will also assess the cybersecurity part of the Digital Single Market Act published on May 6 which announced the establishment of a public-private Partnership on cybersecurity and a review of the e-privacy Directive.
MEP Antanas Guoga - as ALDE shadow rapporteur of the NIS directive - has invited government representatives and EU officials to take stock of the progress made with the Directive, but also look ahead and come up with some new solutions.
The hearing will take a holistic approach and address cybersecurity in all its dimensions with the involvement of Members coming from five different parliamentary Committees (Gérard Deprez, Kaja Kallas, Hilde Vautmans, Sophie in't Veld) giving the floor to businesses and academics.
