many layers of chalk strata where laid down under the sea during the Upper Cretaceous period, and was later uplifted at around the same time as the Alps were formed.
The rocks at Sandy Mouth are from the Bude Formation and of Silesian (Upper Carboniferous) age, approximately 310 million years old. Rocks from the Westphalian Stage (Langsettian to Bolsovian Sustages) being from the middle of the Silesian.
The formation is mostly sandstones, but grey-brown mudstones and siltstones can be seen in beds at the top of the cliff and in thinner layers that dip down to beach level.

Zion Canyon reveals many events of middle geologic times. The story of Zion begins where that of Grand Canyon ends and ends where that of Bryce canyon begins. The geologic records of 2 billion years are incorporated in these three park areas, all located within 120 miles of each other. Zion National Park has witnessed many changes in landscape and climate. At times it was covered by the sea; at other times broad rivers traversed its surface; at still other times it was swept by desert winds. Many of the rocks were laid down by water as gravel, sand, mud, and limy ooze. These were consolidated into conglomerates, sandstones, shales, and limestones by the weight of layers above them and by the lime, silica, and iron that cemented the grains.
Geologist divide sedimentary rocks into formations which differ from each other in such features as mineral content, extent and thickness of individual layers, and kinds of fossils. Each individual formation reveals the geography, climate, fauna and flora of its time. The formations of Zion were laid down one above the other, in orderly succession. Seven formations are prominently displayed within the park; their edges appear along the canyon walls. The oldest, Moenkopi appears in the lowest park elevations while the youngest, the Carmel, appears at the tops of some of Zion's lofty features. Because the layers dip gently northward, the oldest strata are exposed at the south margin of the park along the Virgin River and the youngest are exposed to the north. This is one of the rock formations at 'Brimham Rocks' in North Yorkshire. The layers of rock have been eroded by the wind and rain at different rates, depending on the hardness of each layer, leaving these natural rock sculptures.

The mood was right while we traveled to our final destination for a date with Guy The Forest Ranger at Kartchner Caverns. Diffused light beams ripping through the clouds, spraying nearby mountains with incredible clarity. Every passing formation you want to stop for a photo, but we're on a schedule...that can wait. We can't let an opportunity leave us. Who knows when we'll be back!
What's that? Pull a U-E! There! There! As we tear into the entrance of French Joe Canyon, I leap out of the car mid-flight, tumble roll and start sprinting. "Babe, the clouds are coming--I'LL BE RIGHT BACK!"
French Joe Canyon - The Whetstone Mountains. After some heavy research--sitting on the recliner and flipping through my phone like a little kid--I learned very little about this mountain. At first I thought it was Apache Peak, too tiny. Then found the nickname Tucson natives call it, but would you believe I didn't write it down and lost the link that couldn't be revived? Yeah, I did that. However, I did learn what a sedimentary rock strata (or geological strata) is. And with that new information, I'm going to name this mountain French Joe Tilted Strata Mountain.
Great trip seeing an immense sedge of Cranes at a beautiful staging ground, staying in the spooky town of Bisbee that I'm still trying to forget, and witnessing the wonders of southern Arizona where the wintering Sonoran Desert is in full effect begging my return.
It is the top of the fizzy drink bottle from last week, backlit with strong lighting. Either their plastic moulding machine needs looking at, or they just knew I needed subject matter.....

Source of the short, but enchanting River Tillingbourne.
A mere twelve miles long, much more a stream than a river,
in fact, several north-flowing streams down Leith Hill’s dip slope.
Here tucked away in a private garden is its source, Tilling Springs.

Seen shortly after arriving at Redditch is one of three such vehicles that had been delivered to the depot today. They shall be used on smaller routes and replace older vehicles, such as MPDs (Mini Pointer Darts) and the older Optare Solos. It is also believed that a further two are expected at the depot.
Diamond's KD68 DVF (21217) is seen parked in the back of the Plymouth Road depot in Redditch having been delivered from Tividale. It is one of three at the depot, the other two being DVC (21216 - which was being used by an engineer, a driver and an inspector for familiarization purposes) and DVH (21219). KD68DVC, KD68DVF and KD68DVH were all new this month, and were registered in either Borehamwood or Northampton as the registration would suggest. Something noticable is that the seat moquette on the Preston Bus examples differs to the Diamond ones. They are Mercedes-Benz 516CDI/Mellor Strata's.
As a side note, I would like to thank the depot staff for being nice enough to let me around the depot. Without this, I would only have been able to get a photo of the rear of one from 216 from a distance.
