I have this amazing family, who I am lucky enough to call friends, who asked me if I would be willing to take some photos of their daughter. It just so happens they love the show Stranger Things, and their daughter is Eleven (or at least a doppelganger of Eleven from the Upside Down).
So now, of course, I am really excited about these photos! It was simple really - they already had a dress like Eleven's and i knew a place not too far away that would provide a suitably creep backdrop.
That place just happened to be the old Molly Stark Sanatorium - an abandoned medical facility from the 1800s.
We got there around 8, trudged around till we found a good angle and a twisted old tree and we set up camp. I used two lights. One main light using a 32 inch octabox and one light with a 7 inch reflector that just kicked a little light onto her left side and a little onto the underside of the tree branches. We shot photos for about 40 minutes and then I took the whole operation back to my home office where I then worked between After Effects and Photoshop to create all the post FX like the fog, the light streaks and the logo.
What a fun project!
