Op 14 december 2019 reed de DSB 5283 als EC 39 van Hamburg naar Denemarken voor het allerlaatst via de 'Vogelfluglinie'. Deze verbinding stond vooral bekend als één van de laatste verbindingen in Europa waarbij de trein op de boot meevaart. De EC's naar Kopenhagen worden per 15 december 2019 omgeleid via Flensburg.
De reden voor het afschaffen van de EC's via Fehmarn is de aanleg van de Fehmarnbelt-tunnel tussen Puttgarden en Rødby. Met de komst van deze gecombineerde weg- en treintunnel wordt de reistijd van Hamburg naar Kopenhagen aanzienlijk ingekort. Met de komst van de tunnel (en dus de kortere reistijd) wordt ook een groei van het aantal (trein)reizigers verwacht, dus wordt de enkelsporige 'Vogelfluglinie' (Lübeck - Puttgarden) uitgebreid naar dubbelspoor.
Naast de aanleg van het dubbelspoor staat ook het afschaffen van de omweg via Timmendorfer Strand op de planning. Het plan is om de spoorlijn meer langs de A1 te leggen, zodat de reistijd verder ingekort kan worden. Of het station van Timmendorfer Strand nog in dienst blijft voor de stoptreinen blijft nog maar zeer de vraag - ondanks dat Timmendorfer Strand een populaire badplaats is. Naast de tijdswinst is de verwachte groei van het goederenverkeer op de Vogelfluglinie één van de redenen om het station te schrappen. Of dit daadwerkelijk zo zal gaan moet nog blijken - het plan stuit nog steeds op verzet van de lokale politiek.
Na het schrappen van de EC's en ICE's naar Denemarken resteren alleen nog regionale treinen en 2 treinparen IC's op de Vogelfluglinie. De oriëntrode RP 218 402 arriveert met één van de IC's, namelijk IC 2415 'Lübecker Bucht' (Fehmarn-Burg - Hamburg Hbf), te Timmendorfer Strand.

217 E. Superior Street, Alma, Michigan 48801. As far as I can piece together, the Strand was originally built in 1920 as a 900 seat house. There was a fire on 11/7/60 which basically destroyed the building. It was rebuilt in 1961 as a 800 seat facility. The balcony was not replaced. It looks like it now shows movies and is used as a live theater by the Gratiot County Players.
