The Stover-Myers Mill, comprises 26 acres along the Tohickon Creek in Bedmnster Township on Dark Hollow Road and the creek in Pipersville. Originally, this mill started as a water-powered gristmill/sawmill and was later powered by steam. Owned by Jacob Stover in the early 1800's, the Stover-Myers Mill produced flour and animal feed for regional and local consumption. Jacob repeatedly modernized it to make the mill more efficient which was later needed in order to keep up with the ever-changing market. As a result, it remained competitive for over 150 years.

Like many gristmills, the mill stayed within the family long after Jacob passed away. Unfortunately, mid-western competition ceased the milling of flour around 1920. The mill did continue to operate as a feed mill and acted as an agricultural retail supplier until 1955, when it closed completely. Bucks County purchased Stover-Myers Mill in 1967 to make it a public park and open it for tours. Since 1978, the mill was added to the national list of historic places in 1978.

Keeping in mind, that a great many folks are now making plans to drive the Alaskan Highway in search of adventure - I thought I'd post a shot of a barrel stove that can be found in many campgrounds along the way.

Add a little kindling, some dry wood (that is often supplied) and a flame - and you are well on your way to a hot lunch or dinner. The flat surface is ideal for cooking your choice of meat and veggie, and if you're hankering for a baked potato, just wrap your spud in foil and throw them onto medium hot coals for 45 minutes to an hour, while you sit back and relax after a day of driving.

Food always tastes better in the great outdoors - so why not give it a try. You will be walking in the footsteps of the old Gold Rush Miners.

...from a time when kids could still play and use real spirituous tablets to cook on their stove. My mother in law used to play with it in the twenties :-) Everything was so neatly made and is still intact. Must be German steel :-)

Beautiful, "well-preserved stoves of various sizes and unique forms, decorated with colourful and very original ornaments" are one of the most interesting details of the interior of Karol Scheibler's residence in Łódź. "They are particular masterpieces of the art of ceramics. The tiles were imported among others from a pottery workshop of Seidel in Dresden as well as from a company Villeroy et Boch from Mettlach, which was well-known across Europe."

Located a short distance from the Cabin Run Covered Bridge near Pipersville in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, the Stover-Myers Mill was built in the early 1800s by Jacob Stover, serving as a flour and feed mill. Later owned by Christian Myers, the mill produced flour until around 1920, ceasing feed production in 1955. The structure was purchased by the county in 1967 as part of a public park, with the mill occasionally open for tours. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Information from the county's website and a tourist website.

found this stove at an antique mall... it was far cheaper than a brand new stove, and works beautifully!

A stove sits abandoned on a country road. (0133a)

An abandoned cabin on BLM land contains two stoves; one powered by gas and the other by wood. There is no gas tank so the wood stove is the only workable option. The last users of this place left the stove fire box full of ashes. (And they didn't use the broom to clean up after themselves either.) One of the windows is broken so someone leaned a piece of plywood against the window. Maybe that will help keep the rain out.

Happy Window Wednesday!

In the kitchen quarters, of this large interesting hoarders house, there where many treasures. These old pots and pans sat upon the stoves, which haven't seen use in many, many years!.

A version of this shot on the phone has been doing the rounds, however this one is from the Fuji x30 so a little more balanced.
