A historical re-enactment group spent this weekend camping at Merrickville’s Blockhouse Park to participate in the village of Merrickville’s “CanalFest”. These young boys and their parents were part of the group. I was fortunate to catch them during some downtime.
I found the painting of the old guy reading the book online and started from there. The rest was added from various kits in my collection. Just another piece of whimsy!
Thank you so much for your visit and comments.
Have a great Sunday! xx
Storyteller Michael O'Leary at the Auckland Botanic Gardens.
Jan 20th 2023
Mike O’Leary is a storyteller from southern England,
Mike is very interactive, and all the stories that he tells are true, except for the ones that aren’t – there may be dragons, goblins, mermaids, giants, wazzocks, shape-shifters or even Jenny Greenteeth – who knows? His stories are based in the landscapes of his part of southern England, and in the west of Ireland, where he is often to be found.
Oh, and he doesn’t take himself too seriously.

My career as a chaplain involves listening to the stories of others. That job may even extend to the zoo!

In this Modern, Virtual World, no one no longer listens to the Epic Stories and Adventures told by the old storytellers ... the memories take them the wind and the wind disperses the dreams of Men but also the old values of Humanity.

Iggy Pop - Tell Me a Story
Walt Disney was a born storyteller. Many of his stories were told by Mickey Mouse, so it's only fitting that the two of them are depicted as arriving in Hollywood together by the Storytellers statue. Walt's arrival predated Mickey's by several years so it's technically not accurate, but only a real nit picker would point that out.

(In the Disney version of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale, Ariel eventually wins the heart of Prince Eric, gets her voice back and celebrates with a beautiful wedding on a boat, surrounded by her aquatic friends and family. In Hans Christian Andersen’s original story, things don’t end so rosily. In fact, the story is tragic throughout, with Ariel’s transformation to human causing her constant agonising pain, before her heart is broken when her prince marries someone else. The Sea Witch informs her that if she kills the prince she will turn back into a mermaid and live, but Ariel chooses to sacrifice herself, throwing herself into the sea and becoming sea foam.

p.s I dislike the Beautification and gloss of Disney on old european folk tales.
I took this self portrait of myself to highlight a very thoughtful 66 th birthday gift from my Son. The gift is the shirt I am wearing and it says storyteller. I like that it really does say in one word how I feel about my life long hobby of photography. My cameras have been many but always the camera has been the tool that I have used to find capture and then learn about the world around me, and finally to share what I have learned with anyone who cares to see.
"It was July 1923. I packed all of my worldly goods – a pair of trousers, a checkered coat, a lot of drawing materials and the last of the fairy tale reels we had made – in a kind of frayed cardboard suitcase. And with that wonderful audacity of youth, I went to Hollywood, arriving there with just forty dollars. It was a big day the day I got on that Santa Fe California Limited. I was just free and happy!" - Walt Disney
