Storm Barra 07/12/21

Another shot from Tuesday's Storm Barra.

The beginning of Storm Barra in Treen Cove. The waves were getting lively.

Taken this morning on a very windy day with quite a stormy sea. The long exposure gives a different feel to the stormy conditions.

Hope you are not all bored with my storm shots - this is another long exposure shot - the light was constantly changing and I just liked the menacing sky in this shot!

There is a big cave at Treen Cove which I have always wanted to explore but as far as I know it is never accessible, even in the lowest of tides. This picture was taken during storm Barra, when the tide was low but the foamy water was still being driven into the rocks by the wind. A long lens gives a little view into the cave.

Spring tides and the centre of the low (962) passing directly over us, produced really high tides with Storm Barra. That combined with winds gusting Force 11 made it wild, even inside Donaghadee harbour.

(PS If anybody has watched “Hope Street”, this is the pretty little harbour that it is set around.)

Is this the end of Storm Arwen or the beginning of Storm Barra? Here we are out in our local park yesterday afternoon. We'd had a morning walk in freezing cold wind and driving rain. This is the golden hour... taken at around 3pm at this time of year. The evening brought more rain and even more rain this morning. We braved it all (just). Then, taking Marnie out again this afternoon and once more, the sun shone like this while we were out. I felt truly blessed. Blessed also to return home to the necessities of life (plus more). There are still some, further north, who have yet to regain their electricity supply after the thrashing of the last storm. Of course they won't be able to read this, or even make themselves a hot drink or meal. No light, no heating, many without means of communication. Heart-breaking -- and in a country where these things are taken for granted by the majority of us.

Thank you as always for your views and comments, they are, as ever, really appreciated. Stay warm... stay safe my friends.

A rescue helicopter flying very low at Mumbles Lighthouse - totaly respect to the pilot in coping with such awful conditions. It was so windy I could hardly stand up!

I thought I was safe on my rock but no, the rogue wave you see breaking engulfed me knee deep, going on to completely submerge my camera bag which was well behind me up the beach, thankfully closed, and my collapsed tripod up to its head. All is well and now dry. We never stop learning!

Rudolph Duck is none too happy about today's weather. ....

Taken from indoors, I hasten to add.

Watching Storm Barra through the windscreen of a Land Rover 90. It reminds me of an impressionist or fauvist style painting.

Looking west across Little Anglesey Lake. The sea water lake has started to overflow slightly at the western end. The 1st time I have seen it happen since moving here nearly 40 years ago.

Taken at about high tide. We were forecast a 4.8m tide but the local tide gauge was recording 5.5m with a F8 gale blowing from the south. Good thing it wasn't an equinoxial high tide of 5.1m forecast!

We are due to have anti flood defences built next year.

Not the best of shots; taken on a cold and very windy day earlier this week. The tail end of storm Barra, the second named storm of the winter. Very few people about, unsurprisingly.

A large wave pounds Porthcawl breakwater and lighthouse as Storm Barra passed over the UK on the 8th Dec 2021. In this shot as the wave is ascending, what looks like a face appears in the side of the wave.

Looking eastwards along Stokes Bay. Failing miserably in keeping spray off the lens but did keep the camera dry. Taken at about high tide.
