Storage solution by Sortimo. Loving it. Just a shame it's near impossible to find stuff like this in the UK (though Mike did find us a supplier in the end).
This storage system is modular and you can arrange the inserts to whatever specification you like. The way the lid is designed means that when you pick up the case, contents of the different compartments wont fall out and mix with others. This weekend's additions to my home: the little red antique Japanese lacquer table, $20, TWO milk glass hobnail lamps, with yellow shades, $8, prettiest vintage dress (must be at least from the $50's), in perfect condition, for my flowers girl's birthday, $6. Such is antiquing on Long Island. The couch was my grandma's, was in my parents first cottage, and has been mine since I was 5, has moved with me to every location I have lived in since then. The pillow in front was hand-embroidered by my mom when she was a little girl (and she almost threw it out!), and the very special book on the bottom was a very special present :). And so finally we have a perfect reading nook! I finally sorted my storage issues out. I've been running low on space on my main computer's hard drive for quite some time. I've also been struggling with a solution as it seemed that every one had its pros and cons. Eventually I decided to ask for a Drobo this past Christmas and I finally got some drives to put in it the other day. I've basically moved my huge library of music and movies off my main computer to the Drobo which has freed up a big chunk for more photos locally. It's not a perminant solutions because eventually I'll eat up those gigabites on my main machine, but hopefully by that time I'll have upgraded to a new a computer with a bigger hard drive. The storage/backup game is always a challenge when you really care about your data.

When we moved into our rental cottage, there was a row of cabinets with heavy, dark, wooden doors, and a short, narrow counter attached underneath. I removed the cabinet doors to open up the small kitchen (as per #marthastewart ), and my landlord removed the counter at my request. I replaced it with a free-standing #butcherblock counter that I got for $15 from a yard sale, two old stools salvaged from my parents basement, and a short press-board bookshelf on wheels that I painted white and topped with a scrap of butcher block from my parents house. We now have storage in metal bins and baskets in the bookshelf/rolling island, and extra counter space for cooling racks or volunteer choppers, seating for hanging out in the kitchen ( #inevitable ), and plenty of space to functionally display our dishes. #DIY #yardsale #secondhand #upcycle #cubbies #openshelving #kitchenideas #tinyhouse #storagesolutions #counterspace #prettykitchen #vintagekitchen
Shoe storage was the main concern for this closet so we added most of the shoe storage on the bottom with hanging and open shelves above for coats, hats, gloves and any other item that needed to be stored in the coat closet.
