Wave upon wave of lies and pretense hung about their heads. When the air stirred, it clamored for truth, justice, and revelation. To no avail: the shutters remained tightly shut.

One of the rooms in the old holding spaces on the 4th floor of the Putnam County Courthouse in Cookeville, TN. Now they are just used for storage space...pictures, plat maps, survey maps, boxes of hand written receipt books, tax records, etc.
Three bracketed photos were taken and combined with Photomatix to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS5.

Fort Honswijk werd tussen 1841 en 1848 gebouwd. Het bestond uit een gebastioneerd aardwerk met torenfort, ook wel Fort Willem II genoemd, naar aanleiding van het bezoek van de vorst in 1843.Het was het eerste en grootste torenfort in de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie.
De vrijstaande bomvrije toren had een kelder en drie verdiepingen met kantelen bovenop, was omgeven door een gracht en had een ophaalbrug. Fort Honswijk diende samen met het aan de overzijde gelegen Fort Everdingen ter afsluiting van het Lekacces: de rivier met de uiterwaarden, de Lekdijk en de binnendijkse stroomruggen. Ook verdedigde het de daarvoor gelegen inundatiehoofdinlaatsluis.

Honswijk fort was built between 1841 and 1848. It consisted of a bastioned pottery with tower fort, called Fort William II, on the occasion of the visit of the monarch in 1843.Het was the first and largest tower fortress in the New Dutch Waterline.
The free-standing tower bombproof had a basement and three floors with battlements on top, was surrounded by a moat and had a drawbridge. Fort Honswijk served with the Fort Everdingen located concluding the Lekacces on the other side, the river floodplains, the Lek and the diked ridges. Also defended the previous location inundation main inlet sluice.
Got myself an IKEA Expedit Bookcase. Well, they are sold as bookcases, but they can be used for other things too ;-) I for me use it to store and especially organize all my photographic gear, because my hobby was running out of hand lol. Now it's all in one place. And for not too much money: the bookcase cost me 49 euro, and the 2 Lekman transparent boxes inside 10 euro each. Much bang for the buck I'd say!

Het is van oorsprong een torenfort, maar door de komst van steeds beter geschut en betere munitie was het noodzakelijk te toren tegen de uitwerking van dit vuur te beschermen. Dit heeft men gedaan door om de toren een contrescarp galerij te bouwen. Deze contrescarp galerij is aan de zijde van de vijand aangeaard. Vanuit deze galerij is het mogelijk via een "stormgang" op het voorterrein van het fort te komen.

This has been done by the tower to build a counterscarp gallery. This counterscarp gallery has been kind on the part of the enemy. From this gallery, it is possible to arrive at the forecourt of the fortress through a "storm corridor".

De bezetting werd gevormd door 10 officieren, 31 onderofficieren en 518 korporaals en manschappen, infanterie, vestingartillerie en landweer vestingartillerie, aangevuld met enkele genisten en hospitaalsoldaten.

At the end of the nineteenth century the armament of the Defence Honswijk was a total of 34 guns of various calibers, 14 Coehoorn Mortars and 10 machine guns, M type 90. The line consisted of 10 officers, 31 petty officers and 518 corporals and men, infantry, artillery fortifications and militia artillery fortress, together with some engineers and orderlies.
This is a simple resolution test I performed on my refurbished Canon PowerShot A1200 point & shoot digital camera. I used the good old USAF-1951 test target as my subject. This target was printed at high res. on a modern laser printer.
As you can see above, I made four images with the camera, at the full resolution of 12 megapixels, and at the next lower in-camera resolution (6 megapixels). I tested at both the widest and tightest lens focal lengths.
I shot four times at each setting, letting the camera autofocus before each shot, and had the camera on a tripod, using self-timer for maximum sharpness. ISO was set to base (80). Maximum JPG quality, fixed white balance. Exposure is auto-only on this camera, and did vary somewhat between shots at times. I carefully compared the images in each set, and kept only the best.
The first image is a 100% (1:1) crop of the center of the test target, at 20mm focal length, at 12MP.
The second is at 6MP, with the lower resolution down-sampled in-camera. As you'll see, very little detail is lost at 6MP. The 6MP image was resampled (using Sinc) 142% in the PC to allow same-size comparison on screen
The last two images were made in the same way as the first. The only difference is that they were taken at 5mm, the lens's widest (shortest) focal length. The target was shot from the same distance as the 20mm shots, but the test target easily accomodates this, with its several scales. Once again, the loss of detail at 6MP is insignificant (to me).
This is the third similar P&S cam I've tested, and they've all had about the same result, with the other two showing no effective difference at their lower res., because their next step down from full res. was more like 8 or 9MP, down from 12 or 14MP.
What to take away from this? Very few inexpensive zoom P&S cameras will have lenses good enough to resolve the full res. of the crazy-high megapixel count sensors of recent years. It would have been better if the manufacturers has designed around perhaps 6MP sensors with less noise, for best photos. But of course, big numbers sell, so this is where we're stuck...
So, set those cameras to lower res., and get many more photos before the card is full, and as-shot photos will take less time to upload to your computer and/or online. And less storage space will be needed, whether on the PC or in the cloud.

Honswijk is een buurtschap behorende tot de gemeente Houten, in de provincie Utrecht. Het ligt aan de rivier de Lek tegenover Goilberdingen.
Tussen het jaar 1150 en 1844 had het dorp een kerk. Deze kerk stond zo dicht op de Lekdijk, dat bij een dijkverzwaring in de 15e eeuw de kerktoren in de dijk kwam te liggen. Tijdens de zomerstorm van 1674 raakte de kerk zwaar beschadigd. In 1844 werden de laatste restanten afgebroken.
Oorspronkelijk stond Honswijk bekend onder de naam Tull. De naam was afkomstig van de versterkte boerderij Tull, die direct naast de kerk stond. Na verwoesting van het huis Tull verdween de naam. In 1393 werd de naam Honswijk voor het eerst gebruikt.

Honswijk is a hamlet in the municipality of Houten, in the province of Utrecht. It is Lek Goilberdingen across the river.
Between the years 1150 and 1844 the village had a church. This church was so close to the Lekdijk that brought out the church tower in the dike at a dike reinforcements in the 15th century. During the summer storm of 1674 hit the church badly damaged. In 1844 the last remnants were demolished.
Originally Honswijk was known Tull. The name came from the fortified farmhouse Tull, who was standing next to the church. After destruction of the house Tull disappeared name. In 1393 the name Honswijk was first used.

In Fort Honswijk werden de 16 arrestanten ondergebracht. Directeur van het concentratiekamp was Mr. B.G. A. Smeets. Maar na enkele maanden werd het concentratiekamp opgeheven. Het ging om te weinig opgepakte mensen en de communistische partij (CPN) had een aanleiding demonstraties te organiseren.

Though not my best shot 'technically', nor at all what I was intending on shooting today (while I spent way to much time curling my hair), this was the shot today that I felt really expressed who I am.

The cultural codes of a tattoo parlour are that of a rugged, almost underground feel, however the warm and earthy tones of the tattoo parlour have a calming affect on the customer. In addition the representational meanings are that to further make the customer feel at home by having several objects such as a candy machines and a stereo that offer some comfort to the individual looking to have body art done at Runic. The artwork displayed on the walls of Runic is not to overwhelming and the initial reaction to the front desk is that of a professional layout that is not only clean but very organized. The interactive meaning is of comfort and a sense of welcoming and this continues throughout the tattoo parlour.

I just can't live without storage space! We are remodeling our basement. I posted a photo of the early renovation for the "naked & raw" challenge. This is a similar shot.
Before renovation there was a wall dividing the space into two rooms. The gray painted hardy board at the left is where the wall was and went to the right. I'm standing in what was the other room. Along this wall were two long book shelves at least 8 foot long. Well those are gone!
Originally we did not use the storage space under the stairs. I convinced my husband to open up the space for my "stuff". He will be adding sliding barn doors to cover the opening, thus, hiding my "stuff". I still have lots more to go thru and maybe throw away some "stuff" that is not as important to me anymore.
So glad it is almost finished!

The City of Auburn, GA has been wanting to tear down the Wood Garage building for a while because in their eyes, it is just a deteriorating eyesore. According to the worker on the ladder, this prompted the owner of the building to sell some of her land to pay for repairs to the structure (check out the nice new roof) and save it from the bulldozers. It is used as a storage space.
