Stool ball is a reconstruction of a medieval bat and ball game that was probably the ancestor of both baseball and cricket. (We know stool ball existed, and we have an idea what some of the aspects of the game were, but no one knows what the actual rules were back then, so this had to be a reconstruction using what little we do know.) It is great fun, and folks in Wyewood play it a few times a year at our socials as well as at our summer events. Occasionally we even play it indoors. ;) (The ball is very soft.)
This is a stool I've been working on the last few weeks. My goal is to assemble a stool together using thermoforming, and through this, eliminate the need for fasteners. By using what would normally be considered "consequences" of vacuum-forming, the undercuts and trapping of wood add to it's structure.

This bar was actually on the smaller side. Only about 6' in length so coming up with the wood (about three pallets) was simple. I cut one of my pallets in half and attached each half to the sides of a full pallet to make the base. I then built a simple frame and attached some boards to form the top. As you can see, I chose to go in two directions just to give it a little flare! Now as far as the stools go, I can't take any credit for those. My customer found them on a social media site and liked them so; I just went with it. So thank you to whoever built them originally! This was a pretty easy build. I mean with a circular saw and screw gun and a wee bit of glue, not bad for a couple of days work. I didn't add any finish because the customer liked the natural look of the wood. So naked it stayed! Thanks for reading and looking and any feedback is welcome.
I'm bored so going through old photos of derelict chairs! (yeh I'm totally counting stools as chairs in my set)
Artists sometimes leave a characteristic mark or signature on their pictures - as a final picture to this set, this is my personal *signature*.
I am sitting on a black revolving THONET piano stool in Alexandria, Egypt with my brother Michael - the date is probably 1943.
I am blissfully unaware of the horrors going on in Holleschau - although a large map was consulted almost daily to follow the progress of the war.
I like to think this stool was made in Holleschau at the THONET factory of Jacob and Josef KOHN.
It was not till about 2002 that I was aware of the little town in Moravia and the glorious and then, tragic history of its Jewish community.
Almost by accident I became involved in this work two years ago.
Perhaps it really started on the piano stool?
This is a collection container for stool samples. Note the area where
you "must" indicate the consistency of the deuce.
