The day we took the hike up the Stilluptal Valley was pretty overcast, however the minerals within the glacial flow into the Speicher Stillup Reservoir turn the water a pleasing shade of green. That effect is well seen in this five stitch photo.
The Stilluptal valley is privately owned and has thankfully seen little intrusion from man. The great exception of course is this reservoir which is used to generate hydro electricity for the nearby town of Mayrhofen.
Looking up the shady confines of the valley the scene is dominated by the bulk of the Große Löffler.
The Stilluptal is located in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park and, at 17 kilometers, is the shortest of the four side valleys.
A winding toll road in the back Zillertal leads with a slope of up to 15 percent over a length of 8 km to the Stillupspeicher. It lies at an altitude of 1,116 m and was built in 1966 with a length of 2.5 km. The scenic valley invites hikers, walkers and cyclists to explore.
