Green heron in a bit of nice light.
Taken at Wildwood lake in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Kind thanks for the clicks and comments!
DISTINCTIVE FINCH, and a familiar garden resident, in many parts of the region, but will often dominate bird-feeders, keeping away smaller species. It is also very prone to disease, and there is a line off thought that this maybe down to poor hygiene with the feeders, so a lesson for me, and everybody, that feeders need sterilizing and washing often. They are still a joy to watch, and a privilege to have visit the garden, love sun flower hearts!

GODs BEAUTY is SIMPLY AMAZING !
“Monotony is the most beautiful or the most atrocious thing. The most beautiful if it is a reflection of eternity--the most atrocious if it is the sign of an unvarying perpetuity. It is time surpassed or time sterilized.”
Taken at perpetuity....

Where they let you be lazy
Knowing your attitude's all wrong
And you got to change
And that's not easy
The Richmond Dairy Apartments is a Tudor-Revival, fortress-like former manufacturing structure into which three, 40 foot masonry milk bottles have been inserted at strategic exterior building corners.
The Richmond Dairy Co. was founded in 1890 by three Richmond businessmen, A. R. Scott, J. O. Scott, and T. L. Blanton. By 1913 they had engaged the prominent local architecture firm of Carneal & Johnston to design a modern diary facing North Jefferson Street. Client and architect used the strong, vertical form of milk bottles to project the message that sterilized glass milk bottles could guarantee freshness compared to less hygienic milk tins.
Although the company, which produced Dolly Madison ice cream here, had some 389 employees in 1954, it ceased operations in 1970. The empty building fell into disrepair.
By 1990 work began on what would be a challenging transformation from dairy to apartment complex.

A dark chapter in Pirna's history is linked to Sonnenstein Castle. A Slavic castle complex built in the 10th/11th century on a rocky outcrop above the old town became a fortress during the Thirty Years' War.
In 1811, the first sanatorium and care facility for the mentally ill was established there in Germany. Previously, they had been kept in prison-like conditions with orphans, beggars, or convicts. From the 1820s to the 1840s, the institution became a model institution, attracting interested professionals from all over Europe. Instead of punishment, coercion, and isolation, the focus was now on humane treatment methods and employment.
However, after the sanatorium and care facility was closed in June 1940, Sonnenstein became one of six Nazi killing centers. By August 1941, at least 13,721 mentally ill or mentally disabled people of all ages from all over Germany, as well as 1,031 prisoners from the Buchenwald, Sachsenhausen, and Auschwitz concentration camps, were gassed and subsequently cremated here.
After the Münster Bishop Count von Galen made public the "Action T4" (euthanasia killings), Hitler closed the killing centers to ensure peace on the "home front."
Today, a permanent exhibition at the castle informs visitors about the history of the site, including the forced sterilizations carried out there since 1934.
I hear you laughing at me with the echoes right behind me
I feel the air around me and your gaze upon my body
You look at me as if we are not the same
I try to run away like a bullet train
I turn around to find that there is nowhere I can hide
I wish I could reply but I don't have the heart to try
I think I'm gonna cry but I keep pushing it inside
I stand there in the light as you dissect me with your eyes
What am I made of
That you're afraid of?
Am I contagious?
I wanna wake up
It's been a couple hours and the food is turning sour
Your voice is getting louder but you're looking like a coward
You think that all I need is some clarity
You wanna try and put me in therapy
But don't you think I've tried to sterilize my thoughts inside
I've prayed a million times and cried myself to sleep at night
But maybe you're not right and we're just different by design
'Cause how can you decide who I can love and lay beside?

One of my regulars in the park. I guess the spelling depends upon your choice of American or British English. Gray is more common in the U.S., while grey is more common in other English-speaking countries.
For those wondering about the cat with the eye infection I named "Kat," she did not appear today or yesterday. She did not seem very sick, so I am hoping someone took her to a vet for treatment. She is a member of a colony of 15, of whom 10 are females that have been sterilized, so they get lots of attention. Got my fingers crossed and will let you know if I learn more.
Yet another stray cat turned up starving on my doorstep about 2 months ago, so I started feeding her just enough so she could survive as I could see she had kittens hidden away some place.
And lo behold, she turned up yesterday with with 2 kittens, a repeat of last year's rescue
I will trap her and get her spayed in about a month's time when her kittens can fend for themselves.. but I wish people would stop dumping their unwanted cats here, I cannot afford any more cats. I already have 5.
Cat shelters do not exist in this country, cats are allowed to breed as much as they can and die of starvation or other diseases, and NO, the town council does not sterilize the stray cats for free. I have done my research.

Except this was for animals. Today as part of a month long initiative to promote spay/neuter to curtail the City's domestic animal overpopulation, and endorsed by City officials, K-9 Angels Rescue and the Empty Shelter Project, held a massive, free spay/neuter event at Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center. When I left at just after 3:00 p.m., over 400 pets had been checked in for surgery and still more were arriving. My role today was cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments 😊
Straycat in Sicily, pure beauty but also a plague. Please adopt and sterilize these cute creatures...
Hi friends, it’s been grey and cold (temperatures averaging -7°C | 19.4°F) here in Ontario, which makes me want to hibernate. :) I’ve been listening to a lot of great music, practicing daily yoga, and playing with the iPhone that I got for Christmas. Funny fact, this is the first cell phone that I’ve ever had. Ever. I’m having a lot of fun taking photos and making short videos. And fun is good. :)
Flickr always seems too serious to me for smartphone photos, but I would like to see that change. I know that several of you post iPhone images, so I might get brave enough eventually and join you. Yesterday was the first day this year that I took a photo with my DSLR, compared to loads of photos/videos that I’ve taken with my iPhone... I love photos that are taken more spontaneously. I find that DSLR photography has become almost too sterilized. Too perfect. If you know what I mean. I will try to expand on my thoughts about this at some point in a later post.
The photo above is from last year. I took it with my Nikon the same day that I took the photo of the sign at the tattoo shop. Thank you for all your warm and wonderful comments on that image (and all my images!). For the record, I don’t actually have any tattoos, and I don’t intend to ever get any. Still, I find tattoos cool and interesting, and that sign was amusing to me.
Sending out love and good wishes to all of you! I’ve missed you, and I’m grateful for your friendship/presence here! I hope that 2022 will be a magical and inspiring year for all of us. x
I first saw her in the fall of 2019. She was sitting in the parking lot of Tabris, a small pink tongue defiantly sticking out of her mouth, as if teasing. I said "Hello Cat" and bent down to pet it. The cat snorted, pulling away. Okay, I thought, and walked to Tabris for a sheba pouch. After buying a couple of bags, I left the store, anxious to see if the little Cat was still there, tongue sticking out funny. The cat was there. Having treated herself to a sheba, the Cat condescendingly allowed herself to be stroked. We chatted a little and went in different directions, I went home to my tails, and the Cat went about his own, probably very important matters. So the first meeting took place.
In the following days, passing by the parking lot, I did not meet the Cat, and gradually began to forget about it in the whirlwind of everyday bustle. December has come. And just like that, passing by a bus stop near my house, I again saw the Cat. Ruffled, she sat near the stall, waiting for someone to offer her a treat. I was delighted with the Cat, however, joy quickly turned into sadness, because, in my opinion, cats should not sit on the cold sidewalk in December, waiting for a bag of whiskey. We said hello, the Cat got her portion of food and I went to work. Throughout December, we met in the mornings, and during the day various thoughts gnawed at me ... take it, it throbbed persistently in my ears, and my mind answered coldly and prudently - it’s street, you never know sores, infections, and there are seven at home ... the decision came immediately after new year, when I saw that Musya (by that time, I already knew that the shaggy miracle with a defiantly protruding tongue was called Musya) was pregnant. Musya went to our veterinarian, who had to be persuaded with great difficulty, for home overexposure and sterilization, after which she moved to our pride for permanent residence.
Musya, Kusya, Caterpillar (when she walked in a blanket after sterilization, wagging her butt funny - well, the spitting image of a Caterpillar) turned out to be a wonderful domestic Cat, quickly getting along with members of the pride. No one could tell how old she was, her teeth turned out to be bad, some local cat owners told me - she’s old, why did you pick her up ... what to answer them? kidneys, which we successfully cured, and three weeks ago ... my liver ... My Musya turned yellow ... droppers, injections of drugs ... I didn’t save ... at four o’clock in the morning the heart of a funny and cute Caterpillar stopped beating ... Forgive me, Cat... Thank you for being with us for this short time. The pride is sleeping ... it seems that I died ...
the photo was taken yesterday, after the clinic, she perked up a little, drank water herself and walked around the apartment a little, climbed onto the sofa herself. Last photo Cats with a difficult fate.
Otaru was an ancient town where the Ainu, indigenous people of Japan once lived.
After the decline of the coal industry, it experienced a constant and slow abandonment.
Today it is famous only for its historical monuments and visited by tourists who love the canal area.
The decadent expectation that the city buildings and old factories give make it a truly fascinating place.
Sometimes it is good that modernity has not arrived to rebuild and sterilize everything.

In my school, since one year and half, wild cats took a little garden for home. Females had a lot of kittens, i tried to help them, asking town hall, associations for sterilization. But nothing happened. Now, town all after pressure from associations decided to do something. We'll see.
I continue to feed them. They are wild, i managed to catch only three kittens, who found a human family. This one for example.
In Boulder, Montana we drove through a complex of buildings which had once housed the State School for Deaf, Blind and Feebleminded Children which eventually evolved into the State Training School after a separate location was developed for the Deaf and Blind. The buildings represent the long evolution in the broader society and within institutions of the best way to care for persons with disabilities of various kinds. Eugenic sterilizations were performed here, to prevent breeding of defectives. This structure which was opened in 1912, closed in 1986. Lots of windows in this building.
Happy Window Wednesday!

Dried Fish edible fishes preserved through removal of moisture. Fish drying as a means of preservation has been practiced since time immemorial in this region, and dry fish is considered as a delicacy in the menu of many people of Bangladesh. The basic principle of fish drying is that the activity of the muscle enzyme and microorganism is reduced to a minimum through drawing out the water content of the fish by sun drying in a traditional way. Fish drying is carried out in some selected coastal areas and inland depressions of Bangladesh where modern preservation facilities and good infrastructure for transportation are absent. Some important spots are: Dublar Char of sundarbans, st martin's island, Rangabali, Sonadia Island, Moheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, lbrahimpur of Sunamganj, and Joshomantapur of Jamalganj. Estuarine and marine set bag nets (Behundi) are the main gears for supplying fishes for drying; harvested fishes are carried to the drying yards and then segregated species-wise by hired labourer.
The important marine and freshwater species that are dried are Loitya (Harpodon neherius), Chhuri (Lepturacanthus savala), Punti (Puntius sarana, P. stigma), chapila (Gadusia chapra), Lakhua (Polynemus indicus), Rupchanda (Pampus chinensis), and shrimps (Metapenaeus species and Penaeus species).
Two to eight days are required for drying depending on the size and species of the fishes. The segregated fishes are placed on mats, or hung from raised racks/poles. The dry fishes are often infested by blow fly (Chrysomya species) and their larvae (maggot) during the drying phase, especially in the cloudy and rainy days; and by beetle (Necrobia species) and mites in the store causing considerable amount of weight loss of the finished product every year. To protect the products from the infestation of insects, the merchants often use various harmful insecticides and fungicides. But the availability of sterilization of dried fishes by radiation can ensure pollution-free environment. Institute of Food and Radiation Biology of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission is currently engaged in research on storage technology of dried fishes using nuclear radiation.
A large part of the tiny town of Blue River, Oregon was ravaged by the Holiday Farm/McKenzie Fire in 2021. My daughter and granddaughter lost their home completely, down river in Vida, Oregon; but the school, K - 12 grades in Blue River was saved, as was the historic and beautiful Goodpasture Covered Bridge. A third important structure was saved, but I don't recall right now which one it was. Even the lady Fire Chief lost two homes that she owned while helping others to try to save theirs. I can't even say how many acres were scorched, but it was a lot.
The little sort of cerise wildflowers in the photo are some of my favorites, and they seem to have grown and bloomed after the fire; so perhaps they thrive in scorched earth. I don't recall their name right now, but I have liked them for many years, and had no idea until recently that they tend to thrive in sterilized earth.

A mystery disease is sickening and killing songbirds in Pennsylvania and many nearby states. Researchers aren't sure what is causing the disease or if it contagious, so people are asked to empty their bird feeders and birdbaths and throughly sterilize and disinfect them. I haven't seen any sick birds around our house, but until it is safe to continue feeding the birds my feeders and baths will remain empty. I feel bad for my regular feeder visitors, like this fledging tufted titmouse, who came to an empty suet feeder. This little bird definitely was not happy. Taken through a (somewhat dirty) window. Backyard bird.
study for portrait of SS Oberfuhrer Dr. Victor Brack for "Doctors of Death" project shown at Southwest Texas State University art gallery in 1985. /from my own recently found notes on project a translation of a letter Dr. Brack send to Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler, June 1942. Dear Reichsfuhrer! Allow me to remind you that it has been over a year now since we discussed the sterilization of some two million jews, so as to render them incapable to reproduce yet utilize them for labor. At that time you liked the idea but objected to the cost and time allocated to this enterprise. I am now happy to report to you that my staff ,working diligently came up with a new process which will accomplish the same results in the shortest of time and at a fraction of the cost, I am now talking about castration via X ray a method proven at various concentration camps, in short we can now sterilize thousands of Jews in the shortest time; considering the presen labour shortages I urge you to act quickly, so we can proceed. Let me assure you that my physicians and the entire medical staff is at your disposal. Should you, dear Reichsfuhrer decide to apply my castration method, kindly instruct Reichsfuhrer Bouhler so he may notify all departments of the approval of project. Heil Hitler, Yours truly. Victor
It's always a bit painful to screw a camera into your skull for a photo, but I hope it was worth it. Please, don't try it at home if you don't have sterilized drill bits...
Today was the day: Skye was getting sterilized.
She's almost 2 years old now and we don't want to breed with her. So we made the decision to 'help' her.
She's still very groggy from the anesthesia. From time to time she wakes up, moans a bit, walks around for a minute, gives me a reproachful look and goes back to sleep.
Poor thing... But I promise you it will be better soon, sweet Skye!
Sadly all of the 12-13 kittens are eaten up by feral dogs in ladakh region . This is Alarming and soon all wildlife will be eaten up by feral dogs due to uncontrolled population of Dogs in the region with zero efforts by Govt to control population . sterilisation is not the solution as a dog lives for 10-13 years in if they only sterilize Dogs in next 10-15 years they will eat up everything in region .
Saint Louis Car Company's Green Train was rolling through Chicago's 21st Street interlocking in November of 2002.
At the time, Amtrak was in the process of eliminating the 21st Street tower as can be seen with the silver box that would doom the building.
The former GM&O dwarf CPL would also be removed as the old school interlocking was updated.
Long time ...
Something quick for you.
Small sour green apples comfiture.
I'm not sure if you might know them by "wild apples" or not.
You need:
- a pan, water, sugar, small green sour apples, lemon and cinnamon.
First, you make a sweet sirup.
1l water, 400g sugar, 1 cinnamon stick, 1/2 lemon slices.
Put everything in a pan and boil for about 45min, until you get a sirup.
500g apples - cut them like you see in the image.
Don't forget until they are all done, to put them in water with lemon juice and the other half of the lemon (slices), as you cut them.
To make things a lot faster, you can use an apple cutter (google it). I don't have one.
When the sirup is done, add the apples and boil them for about 75min. Most of the sirup will be gone, don't worry.
Put it in sterilized jars and seal.
Store in a cool place.
Take care!
*hugs*

This is a great place for an adventure, 3 days kayaking then 2 days hiking carrying heavy packs & tenting along the way . It is much more satisfying if you do it the hard way, carry all your own gear, incl a UV water sterilizer ( don't trust the water), your bed, food, tent, gas cooker, clothing for all season's, and camera gear & tripod . Also you need carry out all your rubbish too ! - so worthwhile
Located in Largo Argentina is the Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary, a no-kill shelter because in Italy there is a no-kill law for homeless cats (of which Rome has many), and is guided by a group of volunteers who sterilize stray cats in Rome.
In the meantime I found out, to whom this cat belongs. And also that I got to feed this cat. She now lives in one of our barns. Étoile is a very sweet cat and a bit nervous. She flinches at every sound. Her name is Étoile (star), but she thinks, she's called "Katzi", because that's how I called her. The building where she lives in is her home somehow. Some years ago, before we lived here, she had kittens in that barn. But she's sterilized now. The photo shows her in front of that barn. We store our wood there.
Today's image is a macro photograph of my trusty 'Swiss Army Lock Pen Knife', it has a red handle and really so useful .... need to peel an Apple when out walking?
Well it's just the job with the main blade locking there is little chance of the blade folding back and cutting oneself.
The hand in the photograph wasn't real of course... it's a plastic hand attached to a old small back scratcher I found knocking around in my shed.
This is my macro image entry for Macro Mondays this week .... 25-05-2020 topic .... Handle ....
I do hope it's liked ....
Cheers .... Sean.
Thank you so much for .... viewing, commenting or favouring my work it's extremely appreciated. 😻

I took the somewhat scenic route home from the conference since I was leaving from Downtown Kearney anyway. I ran up Highway 30 to GI and picked up the Interstate after a quick lunch in downtown. As I was pulling into the parking lot, I noticed a train sitting still, so I took a quick minute to run up to the tracks to shoot it since they have a great pole line still running through town. It's only a matter of time before all the lineside character is distilled and sterilized, so when I see these opportunities, I don't pass them up.
