Loosely based on the cover of a book by Stephen King.

Unless my photo date is incorrect, I actually painted and photographed this on 27th August 2022 - I need to check dates.

Macro Mondays theme “My Favourite Novel (Fiction)”

I’m a hard core Stephen King fan. One of my favourites definitely is IT. As far as movies are concerned, The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption are my favourites. Stephen King inspired me to write a book. It is called Dawn. Just google it with my name. It is in Dutch though,…

Thanks for all your faves and comments everyone!

I really appreciate them!

Stand by me

When the night has come

And the land is dark

And the moon is the only light we'll see

No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid

Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me

Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon

Should tumble and fall

And the mountains should crumble to the sea

I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear

Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me

Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me

Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me

Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

I used one of my fractal images as the base image in Nightcafe Creator. See image in comments.

Interesting as it didn't really look like the base image. However I added a lot of modifiers.

Desert mining town, desolate, abandoned, skeletons, and mountains.

This was the house that Stephen King lived in at Bangor, Maine. The house was built in 1858 and is surrounded by a black iron fence with gargoyles.

Thank you so much for your views, comments and faves! They are encouraging as I continue on my photographic journey.

In 1986, a young Will Wheaton and his fellow child actors ran across this railroad trestle being chased by a steam powered train in one of my favorite movies of all time, Stand by Me (based on a great Steven King short story, The Body ). When I lived in Shasta County a number of years ago the tracks were still on it and you could walk out there and take in the view of Lake Britton below. The tracks have long been removed and fences have been installed across the ends in a feeble effort to keep people off it.

On this autumn morning the adjacent Dusty Campground was empty, the leaves were changing, and conditions were quite moody with the low clouds so I grabbed this frame.

Historical cemetery near McConnell,IL. This was actually the site of a one room schoolhouse as well as a cemetery. The school was moved in 1975 after being used as the local American Legion Hall for many years. A veteran of the Revolutionary War is buried in the cemetery in back. There is an interesting memorial on the site about the soldier,William Shippee, and the history of the site....

Vivid dreams have been a part of my sleep pattern since childhood. But lately it seems they've moved to a new level. No longer occasional, it's every single night and with incredible clarity and intensity. Even if I fall asleep for just a few minute then awaken, I'm pulled out of some bizarre dreamscape scenario where real life mingles seamlessly with my subconscious. I actually look forward to sleep on account of this. Perhaps the dreaming isn't new at all but what has changed is my ability to recall the dreams. No matter; it's the kind of thing that is unknowable. Dreams sometimes help me solve problems and enhance my creative vision. A couple of months ago I dreamed of having a conversation with author Stephen King (who I never met but have enjoyed his writing). At one point I mentioned photos I had taken of the Grande Dame of abandoned houses, a derelict 1880s mansion in the Second Empire style...the quintessential haunted house. I told him it would be the perfect illustration if he ever needed one for a book. Steve looked at the photos for a moment, and told me to "put these together." I began mulling over the dream the moment I awoke. Soon after I was at the computer pulling up the old photos. Almost immediately I saw what the dream Stephen King saw, something I had totally missed even after all these years. A montage could be created by compositing multiple views into one. The result would be a complete lateral view of the house that did not otherwise exist. Some context is necessary here. The original photos were taken the evening before the house was to be demolished. The exterior veneer of brick had been removed earlier that day leaving a ghastly surface of wooden planks. The house looked even more fearsome that it had before. Daylight was fading fast when I came upon the scene and I had only a small Canon pocket camera. It was now or never, so I went with the Canon wishing I had a wider lens. I remember backing up as far as I could, but a tree line prevented me from moving more than a few feet away from the foundation. There was no way to get a wide shot so I took several 'slices' to be sure no details were missed. Back in present time, I went about creating the composite image by overlaying and aligning the individual bits. None of the fits were perfect, but the overall effect was dramatic. There on my screen was the scene as I saw it that evening six years ago. An image born from a dream that looks like it belongs in a nightmare. I could think of no better way to celebrate Halloween than revisiting this horrific scene.

Bringing this one round again... with an UPDATE.

Due to your responses, Martha's Vine climbed out of the basement, and is now averaging around 150-thousand in Amazon rankings, but that's not good enough to pair it with bestsellers.

Please continue your support. If not in buying a book, then in leaving a review, clicking on reviews, or social networking this image. Tell your friends. Thanks.

Tell Oprah Yes, there is a way to tell Oprah Winfrey about Martha's Vine. If you follow this link, and fill in the letter form, how can she not at least take a peek?

Would you like your very own autographed copy of Martha's Vine?

I need your help...

It took me nearly a year to complete, revise, and publish my very first novel, Martha's Vine, and another 14 years to incubate it. But I need to get it to the world. I can't do this without your help. So, I will bribe you... to help me.

If you would like your own autographed copy, please do the following (some of you have already done this):

1) Purchase 2 copies on Amazon. Read one, and give one as a gift.

(Americans get FREE shipping when they buy two books; Canadians don't

get the free shipping deal, so the purchase of 1 book is perfect.)

2) Write a review on Amazon.

3) Give the book you read to a friend.

4) Send me your address. And I will send you a brand new signed copy FREE.

It is IMPERATIVE that the books be purchased on Amazon. And that you read reviews and click, "YES," to was this review helpful?. That pushes the book up the ranks and pairs it with popular novels and bestsellers. Ergo, it will start attracting attention.

And, if any of you feel they could sell a box of books in your city, I can send a box of books directly from the printer to you. Just let me know.

PLEASE help me get Martha's Vine into the public eye. Blog it, fave it, social network it... do what you can.

I promise you, I don't forget a favor. Ever.

With gratitude in advance,

Sheree

PS Can't buy a book? Don't care to buy a book? No problem. You can still help me by going to Amazon... reading the reviews and clicking, "YES," to the "Was this review helpful?".

Advisory: The novel has adult content, graphic sexuality and violence.

PPS Just in case anyone thinks I am doing this for the money -- Uh, no. I get about a dollar from every book sold. Really!

My little homage to My Favorite book series “The Dark Tower by Stephen King! Considered by many his magnum opus, it took him 34 years to complete and comes in 7 books at almost 3,700 pages! It is a COMMITMENT to read the entire series! The books combine Fantasy Fiction, Science Fantasy, Horror, and Western elements to tell the story of Roland the Gunslinger and his quest for the Dark Tower.

The title of my photo is a famous line from the first book, “ The Gunslinger.” As his young traveling companion Jake, is about to fall to his Death he utters these words to Roland. (and Thus the story REALLY begins)!!

Wonderful textures provided by ana gr and Skeletal Mess.

Thanks all for you comments, Faves, awards, invites, notes and your incredible support!

After a morning at the gym I went out for a good old walk but what a change in today's weather!! Yesterday, we had sunshine and it was reasonably warm ... today, it's cold and overcast!!

After I was a good 20 minutes from home I realised I had left my camera, however, I had my iPhone with me so today's photo was taken with that! I must confess I'm always impressed by the quality of photos that are taken with my iPhone ~ basically, no processing is required!!

These withered grasses reminded me of that Stephen King movie "The Children of The Corn" ...... I'm now running home!!

"...its one purpose is to turn. The spin of ka always brings us back to the same place, to face and reface our mistakes and defeats until we can learn from them. When we learn from the past, the wheel continues to move forward, towards growth and evolution. When we don’t, the wheel spins backward, and we are given another chance. If once more we squander the opportunity, the wheel continues its rotation towards devolution, or destruction.”

The Cascades Whiskey Bar at The Stanley Hotel stocks an immense collection of whiskeys.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, is a 1909 hotel, built by the inventor of a "horseless carriage" known as a Stanley Steamer. Stephen King's stay at the "haunted" Stanley supposedly inspired him to write "The Shining."

The Whiskey Bar, with an inventory of over 900 varieties of whiskey, hosts an exclusive (i.e. expensive) tasting event, the Whiskey University.

“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.”

INTROSPECTIVE

If I climbed the highest mountain until I couldn't see the ground

If I swam the deepest ocean to a love that wasn't found

If I dug the deepest hole to buried treasure underground

If I sung the sweetest melody that echoed all around

If I screamed the loudest scream but didn't make a sound

If I recited all the poetry from my heart that knows no bounds

Would I see you on the mountain or would you still be on the ground

Would you swim beside me with the dolphins that we found

Would you open up the treasure chest with the key left on the mound

Would you sing in perfect harmony and dance and turn around

Would you fill the air with your sweet voice or leave the emptiness abound

Would you make my poems rhyme with yours with sweetness of your sounds

What if I never climb the mountain, what if I never swim the sea

What if I never lift a shovel or dig a tunnel straight to thee

What if I never sing a lullaby or whisper in your ear

What if the scream I make is as silent as my gently flowing tears

What if the poems, prose and words I write are simply emptiness

What if loneliness and sorrow end in silence; empty promises

Could we climb a different mountain; find a different kind of love

Could we swim in warmer water; where the sunshine is above

Could we bury all the treasures of a love that cannot be

Could we sing a different song of friendship; harmony

Could we cease to scream inside our heads and find peace in silent reverie

Could we form a Poet's Corner and speak quietly of our hearts so free

I like to think there is a better way, where words are not required

I like to think that I can convey my feelings with my eyes

I like to think that unconditional love means I can let you go

I like to think that you will live a life so happy and I can make it so

I like to think that in many years I will still be here

I like to think my memories of you will keep me warm, my dear

So with these thoughts and words of mine I journey on my way

So I can fight the fight within me, so I can have my say

So I can find the strength I know is waiting for the chance

So I can find the will in me, to let go; begin a different dance

So I can find a better way to find true happiness

So I can find the final hurdle and leap it; then I am blessed.
