Romanche Glacier is a glacier located in Alberto de Agostini National Park, Chile. A cascade from the glacier tumbles into the Beagle Channel. The lighter color water contains sediment and is coming off of the glacier.
No snow or ice photo today as I've just finished editing my photos of Cape Horn for a photo book.
I took this photo not long after landing on Cabo de Hornos. It was quite a warm afternoon and top decks of the "Stella Australis" contrasted with her surroundings. (Yes, Lloyds of London might not refer to ships as females any longer, but I still do!)
Today, most of my editing has been done in Light Room and resizing done in PSCC as is my preferred choice when making a large copy of a photo for printing and a much smaller version of it for any potential slide shows in the future.
Italia Glacier is a tidewater glacier located in Alberto de Agostini National Park, Chile. It flows down in a southwest direction to its terminus in the Beagle Channel.

The Magellanic penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus) is a South American penguin, breeding in coastal Patagonia, including Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands, with some migrating to Brazil and Uruguay, where they are occasionally seen as far north as Espirito Santo. Vagrants have been found in El Salvador, the Avian Island in Antarctica, Australia, and New Zealand. It is the most numerous of the Spheniscus penguins. Its nearest relatives are the African penguin, the Humboldt penguin, and the Galápagos penguins. The Magellanic penguin was named after Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who spotted the birds in 1520. The species is listed as being of Least Concern by the IUCN.

From Wikipedia:
The rock shag (Leucocarbo magellanicus), also known as the Magellanic cormorant, is a marine cormorant found around the southernmost coasts of South America. Its breeding range is from around Valdivia, Chile, south to Cape Horn and Tierra del Fuego, and north to Punta Tombo in Argentina. In winter it is seen further north, with individuals reaching as far as Santiago, Chile on the west coast and Uruguay on the east. The birds also breed around the coasts of the Falkland Islands.
The rock shag usually nests on ledges on steep, bare, rocky cliffs. It normally lays three eggs, though nests of from two to five eggs have been seen. Nesting colonies range is size from five pairs to nearly 400.
A spirited dispute between skuas for prime beachfront real estate. We watched them for several minutes from a Zodiac offshore.
From Wikipedia:
The Chilean skua, also called the cinnamon skua (Stercorarius chilensis), is a large predatory seabird, which breeds in Argentina and Chile, but ranges as far north as Brazil and Peru when not breeding. A relatively distinctive skua, it has a dark cap that contrasts with its cinnamon throat and lower face. Hybrids with the brown skua are known from southern Argentina.
While nowhere near the size of birds such as the wandering albatross, the Chilean skua makes up for it in sheer aggression towards other birds.
Chilean skuas feed on fish and other seabirds, as well as scraps, and carrion.
This glacier is even a bit more off the beaten path. Only small vessels can traverse the narrow fjord to get to this location. Shout out to the #StellaAustralis and #collette Tours for getting us here.
On the sunny warm day we visited, we were able to witness multiple calvings of this tremendous wall of ice. Hiking next to it we saw so many details of this massive ice field located within the Darwin Range. Awe inspiring.
Zoom to see more details of the ice, and the varying hues caused by the minerals and ground rocks accumulated as the ice moves ever toward the sea.

From Wikipedia:
The upland goose or Magellan goose (Chloephaga picta) is a sheldgoose of the shelduck-sheldgoose subfamily of the Anatidae, the biological family that includes the ducks and most duck-like waterfowl such as the geese and swans. Sheldgeese resemble true geese and display similar habits, yet they are more closely related to shelducks and ducks.
This species nests and breeds close to water (rivers, ponds, oceans) either on the ground or near it among vegetation, usually in grasslands or coastal meadows in the Falkland Islands or in southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego at the beginning of the austral summer. Population estimates suggest the insular subpopulations are stable, but continental populations show a recent decline in abundance. Upland geese are herbivores, specializing in plant leaves, stems and seeds.

March 16, the Zaandam is holding its position at Punta Arenas. Two other cruise ships (Stella & Ventus Australis) were permitted to dock at city centre pier - Muelle Arturo Prat (Arturo Prat Pier).
Zaandam will not be permitted to dock.
Port authorities permitted the Stella passengers to disembark and transfer to the airport. However, the airport would not accept them so they were returned to the ship and quarantined on the ship for 12 days and then allowed to fly out of Punta Arenas.
