A long winding street called Steep Hill, built on a very steep hill in Lincoln .. with a lopsided lamp post:)
Easy going down and some conveniently placed benches to rest on the way up:)

Went out to photograph a Pier, came back with some Beach Hut pictures.. it just goes like that sometimes... this one looks out on to the Bristol Channel (UK), with the island of Steep Holm on the horizon.

Paradise made of volcanic rock
Vineyards, tropical fruits, exotic mountain forests: Madeira is not called the "Island of Eternal Spring" for nothing. The volcanic island off the coast of Portugal has been inhabited for 600 years - first came seafarers, then settlers and tuberculosis sufferers and finally tourists.
We were excited to embark on a hiking tour of the secret trail in the nearby touring area of Ohlstadt (aka gate to the famous mountain Heimgarten but we intended to hike to a different summit.) We loaded our car with essentials like water bottles, snacks and hiking boots, and set out early in the morning to begin our adventure.
As we started on the trail, we quickly realized that this was not going to be an easy hike. The ground was slippery due to recent rains, and the trail was very steep. We had to rely on our instincts, sense of direction and outdoor app, as there were no guideposts to show us the way.
Despite the challenges, we were determined to reach the summit. We pushed ourselves to keep climbing, taking breaks to catch our breath and admire the beautiful views along the way. We saw few hikers on the trail, which added to the sense of adventure.
After 2.5 hours of hiking, we finally reached the summit. The view was spectacular, and we felt a sense of accomplishment and awe as we looked out over the valley below.
As we made our way back down the trail, we felt grateful for the experience. It had been a challenging hike, but the reward at the top had been worth it. We felt like we had discovered a secret gem in the touring area!
Bamburgh Castle on the East coast of Northumberland has been used as a film location since 1920's, featuring in such films as Ivanhoe, El Cid, Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth and adaptations of Macbeth.
It is a wonderful castle, open to the public and is known well by Photographers, who often capture it during sunrise hours.
I captured this shot last night, after the many visitors to the area had left the beach.
A four hour round trip, getting us back home at 12.45am
At Madeira's eastern tip, the dry, windswept basalt Ponta de São Lourenço juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. The island's dramatic, varied terrain results in a rich, complex wine with a history steeped in history.
"Pearls distilled from night-coolish air
fulfilled with the mystery of life
Spheres with sun and luminaries
steeped in splendidness of the morning
Facets of inner gifts
smoothed but still pristine"*

erfüllt vom Mysterium des Lebens
Sphären mit Sonne und Gestirn
durchdrungen vom Morgenglanz
Facetten innerer Gaben
geschliffen und doch unberührt"*

This pic was taken in the beautiful town of Hallstatt, Austria. And this beautiful cat followed me up the steep steps for a perfect background photograph. 📷😻The cable car line sort of distracts but it's SUPER rare to get an animal to sit for Such a wonderful winter background setting...
This is the hill I am climbing to reach Loch Phadruig. Fortunately not all of it was this steep but this bit did have me rather panting. The deep Glen of Glen Callater can be seen to the right, but enough of the blethering, let's move!
Al-Hajar Mountains (Arabic: جِبَال ٱلْحَجَر, romanized: Jibāl al-Ḥajar, The Rocky Mountains[3][4] or The Stone Mountains) in northeastern Oman and also the eastern United Arab Emirates are the highest mountain range in the eastern Arabian peninsula. Also known as "Oman Mountains",[1][2] they separate the low coastal plain of Oman from the high desert plateau, and lie 50–100 km (31–62 mi) inland from the Gulf of Oman.
Al (اَلْ) means "the", and Ḥajar (حَجَر) means "stone" or "rock". So al-Ḥajar (اَلْحَجَر) is named as "the stone" or "the rock".

The trail to the bottom of the Ampitheater of South Falls is steep and slippery. Good to have a fence at times.
Happy Fence Friday!
It was foggy this last visit, and stormy with strong winds and flying snowflakes the time before that... but still it is fun to drive up Lighthouse Road, then hike the oceanside trail to Owls Head, and then climb the steep stairs to the top. I'd like to say it's a nice view from there, but so far I haven't seen anything! haha
