Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) in recognition of World Giraffe Day 2020. This annual event celebrates the tallest animal in the world on the longest (or shortest) day of the year. The day highlights the plight of giraffes who are sufferning a silent extinction. Their populations have dramatically dropped because of habitat loss, poaching, and civil unrest and these iconic African animals have now been reclassified from least concern to vulnerable to extinction.

Snowy Owl has a Conservation Status under the IUCN of Vulnerable www.iucnredlist.org/species/22689055/205475036
This first year female Snowy Owl was unconcerned at my presence, though I wasn’t standing out in the open nor was I using using a short lens to get this photo. Rather, I was inside my vehicle and deploying an 800 mm lens, so this bird was not as close as it might seem [the image is also cropped]. Although it was buzzed by a Common Raven at one point, this majestic bird definitely exuded an aura of not being too worried about any threats.

Status
Resident, winter visitor from Iceland and passage migrant (birds on passage from Scandinavia/the Baltic breeding areas to west African wintering areas). Highest numbers occur during the early autumn, when there is overlap of the populations.
Identification
As the name suggests, its most distinctive feature is the leg colour - bright red. A common wader of wetlands throughout the country, though mainly coastal estuaries in winter. A generally mouse brown bird with dark streaking. Bill medium length and straight, reddish at the base. Legs relatively long. Can occur in quite large numbers at the larger estuaries.
Voice
An hyterical, piercing "tew…hoo, tew…hoo", always loud - often scaring other birds away. Persisitent "tew.. tew...tew.." at breeding grounds.
Diet
Detect prey visually and feed mostly during the day along the upper shore of estuaries and along muddy river channels. Feed singly or in small groups, and their prey consists mostly of Hydrobia sp., Corophium sp. and nereid worms
Breeding
Nests on the ground in grassy tussock, in wet, marshy areas and occasionally heather. Adults often keep guard standing on fence posts or high rocks. Breeds mainly in midlands (especially Shannon Callows) and northern half of the country, but not commonly anywhere in Ireland.

bullfinch ~ pyrrhula pyrrhula
RSPB Amber status list.
This old branch has become a favourite place for many different birds to have a look around or just have a break or as a meeting place.
I'm not really sure about the status of these spectacular wildflowers as the literature is variable, but it seems they are considered somewhat rare and protected. Here, there are areas abounding in them, carpeting the forest floor in white in a beautiful spring display, another of the annual events to eagerly anticipate. I tried to take a number of photos showing the abundance but was unhappy with the results. Suffice it to say that in certain forested areas, it is difficult to take a step without crushing a flower. I happened to catch them at their flawless prime as shown here with another specimen in comments.
