The Antwerp Central Station, also known as Middenstatie (Middle station) or Spoorwegkathedraal (Railroad Cathedral), was first used in 1905. The structure is made up from a steel platform covering and a stone station building in an eclectic style. Recently, the station was completely renovated and in 2007 a tunnel underneath the station and a part of Antwerp was opened, reverting the station’s status as a terminus where are all trains have to turn back. In 2009, the American magazine Newsweek chose the Antwerp Central Station as the fourth most beautiful train station in the world.

cattle station hill is near Creswick and has just one tree on it crying out to be photographed so, just had to stop yet again and do the shot. I have tried to present the image in a slightly abstract way giving most weight to the sky.

The train pauses at Staverton, a delightful count The Staverton Preservation Group are a dedicated band of volunteers from the South Devon Railway Association who look after Staverton Station and its environs. They are responsible for one of the most picturesque Great Western country stations.
It has been the focus of attention from numerous film and television crews; notably the BBC "Hound of the Baskervilles" with Tom Baker, the series "Lame Ducks" with Loraine Chase, Michael Palin's "Ripping Yarns" humorous series of fictious stories and the series "A Horseman Riding By".ry station, which has remained largely unchanged for 100 years, taking you back to halcyon days when life was slower and quieter.
It is typical small wayside station that served the nearby village as well as the adjoining mill and local farms, some of which used to produce Devon cider. If you have time, stop off here and take a walk and enjoy this tranquil spot and its 15th century river bridge.
There are a number of delightful riverside walks. Ask at the station for details.
Throughout the season, the Staverton Buffet Car is open for a delicious selection of teas, coffees, drinks and snacks every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 10am to 3pm. It is also open on certain special event days
The station, designed by Otto Wagner, went into operation in June 1899 as part of the Vienna Stadtbahn (Wiener Stadtbahn). Today it is a station on the U4 underground line.
"The Vienna Stadtbahn [...] was a rail-based public transportation system operated under this name from 1898 until 1989. Today, the Vienna U-Bahn lines U4 and U6 and the Vienna S-Bahn (commuter rail) run on its former lines."*
The Stadtbahn "is one of the main works of the architect Otto Wagner, who not only uniformly designed the substructure and all building structures such as retaining walls, lining walls, bridges, viaducts, tunnel portals and stations, but also all the associated ticket and luggage counters, floor coverings, railings, lifts, grilles, gates, furniture, water pipes and heating and lighting fixtures. The infrastructure has been largely preserved and is one of the city's sights as an overall work of art in the transitional style between late historicism and early art nouveau. Today, all the facilities are listed monuments."**

Pinhão, Douro Valley, Portugal
Pinhão Railway Station is the most beautiful station in the Douro Valley. Built during the 19th century it is known for its tiles depicting the production of Port wine, from the grape harvest, the treading of the grapes to the transport of the wine in rabelo boats down the river to the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.
The train arrived in Pinhão in 1880 which contributed to the rapid expansion of what used to be a small village.
In 1937 the station received the tile panels that make it famous. They were designed by J. Oliveira, an artist who has also decorated other Portuguese stations, and were built in the Aleluia factory in Aveiro. There are 24 panels covering almost all the walls of the main building.
Observing the panels is like reading a story, told by the images that represent the stages of wine production. It is also a journey into the past where various aspects of the Douro Valley that have already disappeared can be observed.

Strong tonal contrasts, lines and shadows caught my eye here.
Leicester is quite an attractive station in its way - the exterior is pretty stunning and the platforms are quite nice and clean with good lines. It's a little mainline station if that makes sense. I used to work in Leicester so this is a very familiar scene.
