For her and that we are leaving our past behind us ...

Been a while since I posted anything. Basically decided I needed a break from photography for a while. End of year exhibition took alot out of me, not that it was hard but changed the entire way I looked at photography, and when I left college I tried to force myself to continue in b&w along the same lines but found myself slipping into a funk.

I got into fitness and only recently picked back up the camera. Decided to go with a Fuji Pro 160S color/film using Exposure. Always loved it muted but strong colors.

The Great Famine (Irish: An Gorta Mór[1] or An Drochshaol, lit: The Bad Life) was a calamitous period of starvation, disease and mass emigration between 1845 and 1852[2] during which the population of Ireland was reduced by 20 to 25 percent.[3] The proximate cause of famine was a potato disease commonly known as late blight.[4] Although blight ravaged potato crops throughout Europe during the 1840s, the impact and human cost in Ireland – where a third of the population was entirely dependent on the potato for food – was exacerbated by a host of political, social and economic factors which remain the subject of historical debate.[5][6]

The famine was a watershed in the history of Ireland.[7] Its effects permanently changed the island's demographic, political and cultural landscape. For both the native Irish and those in the resulting diaspora, the famine entered folk memory[8] and became a rallying point for various nationalist movements. Modern historians regard it as a dividing line in the Irish historical narrative, referring to the preceding period of Irish history as "pre-Famine."

This is another piece I had created for my digital photography class, a print I also used in my schools art show. It is not an original though.. The size and quality of this image is much less because of how I changed it for printing..and the originals are long gone.. I have more of an explanation for that here..If you'd like to know more on that..All I can say is..It's something I am struggling with very deeply and I don't know what to do about it..

I don't wish to ramble much more, just wanted to share my work with all of you..I do plan on uploading a few others from the art show..But these will be all I really have left of this years work..

PS: this guy? He's my bestfriend..

Emigration

As a result of the famine, many Irish families were forced to emigrate from the country. By 1854, between 1.5 and 2 million Irish left their country. In the United States, most Irish became city-dwellers. With little money, many had to settle in the cities that the ships they came on landed in. By 1850, the Irish made up a quarter of the population in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

Day 1-- You've got to be kidding!

Nope! I'm addicted, and I love the habit I've formed, and I'm not going to quit just because I reached the finish line. Ha! It feels wonderful!

Besides, I've got to learn to use my new camera, right? How better to learn? In the day and a half since I got it, I have come to love it, though there are some major differences between this camera and the last that I need to figure out. Hooray for instruction manuals!

So, here we go again. I'm excited! :)

UPDATE: My cousin has jumped in with me. She is super cool and you will love her project.

Here is her #1. Go!

let me just tell you, designing a deck is NOT very fun. This is what happens when you're working for 12 hours straight through the night and you realize you've done something wrong! Whoo hoo!

It seems clear, what you know you should do: start new.

this song

this is not meant to be vain or licentious in any way, shape or form.

I am starting my stream over, or so to say.

I haven't uploaded anything in forever, and I have just renewed my pro account tonight.

I feel as if it is time for a fresh start in everything, new school year, new inspiration.. new new newwww.

This picture is my first listing on my etsy shop, which can be found here.

Yay!

After 2 intense days of working on the latest commissioned mural with Mike Nowland for Hootsuite, we collectively decided to destroy our collaborative piece. We quickly realized that this is the true spirit of a collaborative creative process despite working with each other for years. Tonight, we will be back at Hootsuite's new office to create a new one. Picasso couldn't have said it better himself, “The urge to destroy is also a creative urge.”

Ps: this is my first ever expansion.. Unfortunately when the file was printed a layer was moved... so it didn't turn out how I planned for that :/

PsPs: This actually wasn't how I intended the image to turn out at all....I had a completely different idea...but the shoes got messed up, and I was angry with the image so I put just slammed a cloud of fog in there....

No I am not starting a new job at McDonald's.

But I am starting a new job today.

The company I had worked at for seven years was partially sold off to another company.

And I was part of that partial.

The good news is I think I will be better off.

Basically the same type job. Dealing with the same customers I have been with all along.

The branch I am now with is a lot smaller so none of the politics and stress I am leaving.

As to this photo I stopped in here for a bite to eat before starting my new job.

We will see what the future holds.

I'm not much of a flower picture taker.

But these little guys mean a lot to me.

They're right outside the door of my home.

And every year they pop up to tell me the good news.

Spring is here.

I gotta say they've got me feelin' really good today.

It's funny how a little thing like a flower can mean so much.

But they do.

We've made it through winter.

Spring has arrived.

I feel so good.

Good things are happening.

Really good things.

Viewminder's attracted a lot of attention lately from some pretty interesting places.

And it's not the feds, the police, Homeland Security, bill collectors, the IRS or anyone's attorney.

Some amazing opportunities have presented themselves.

I feel so fortunate and I feel truly blessed by whatever forces of the universe make the things happen that one truly desires will happen.

The Universal Forces have been good to me.

Between that and the feeling these little flowers have produced inside of me I feel pretty freakin' good.

I hope you're feelin' it today too.

I hope you're feelin' the love.

My heart is filled right now with love and light.

Nothing but love and light.

Great things are in the works.

I've learned something in the past couple of years...

when you truly put your heart and soul into something... when you do something out of pure love... you will do that thing not only in a way that is uniquely you...

but you will do it better than just about everybody else.

I've found the passion that's set my soul on fire.

And the product of that passion is going places.

You truly gotta love what you do.

I've been through some tough times and a whole buncha bullshit in the past few years...

but these flowers and a few recent events...

They've got me feeling like the luckiest guy on Earth.

I love feeling that way.

I hope you feel like the second luckiest person on Earth today too.

I mean... I'd like to maintain my postion at least for the rest of the day.

I'm sendin' you all the love and the light that's overflowin' from the core of my being right now.

Love and light.

Lots and lots of love and light.

Happy Spring to you my friend!

... sometimes we all need one.

I had over 1,500 photos on my stream and I just felt like I needed to start over. So buh-bye they all went... it was therapeutic.

There seem to be more diapers outside the basket than can fit inside... how did they ever fit before?

Michael & I went to LA to meet the Life Coaches from my favorite TV Show, "Starting Over". Rhonda Britten wrote Fearless Living, plus a few other wonderful books!

Day: 1

Going to try to have atleast 1-3 shirtless pics a week. But will have one everyday showing whatever I worked on that day. Today started things of easy with 1 hour and half of outdoor cardio

(that reads as a REALLY terrible pun. I didn't even remember the softbox was square...so yea...don't hold that against me, as it was definitely unintentional. yuck.)

ohhhh photography, it's been far too long.

life.

life is good.

photography stuff has been popping up lately. a few band promo dates are in the works, an event this weekend, a model shoot in planning stages, some awesome IndyFlickr/Strobist meetups over the next month...just a lot of really cool/relaxed stuff. It seems as though it's going to progressively get a bit more serious as well- the stuff I'm doing in the next week or so should be pretty chill and entirely stress-free, and as these things pan out over the next month and a half it starts to get a bit more challenging, in the stress sense.

So that's good. It should give me enough time to reacclimate myself...and hopefully surpass where I was a year ago, because even then I always managed to get ridiculously stressed about photography. ...which is just silly.

...AND I start my basic photography class in August! Two months ago, the only reason I signed up for that class was in hopes that it would force me to give photography one last chance, and doing so without stress- I'd only be doing it for a grade, so I wouldn't have to worry about disappointing clients.

...yea. I don't think I need that class to re-ignite my interest in photography anymore! I can't figure out if I think it's going to be boring or fun...doesn't matter I suppose, as it's the gatekeeper to all of the fun photography classes lol.

same settings as the all white photo, just in that one I painted over all of the black parts from the softbox, whereas in this one I multiplied the image once or twice and further extended the black.

when i look at the past year

all i can see is change.

jumping right into something, into something, into something else

moving and then moving in, moving out, moving on, missing the last place, excited about the next

unwavering

stress

unquestioned

support

growth

doubting each move

but blindly diving

it's hard to know if each step is right

it's hard to have regrets

i don't know if what i've got now is good

I do know that what I had was good

i don't know if it will get better

don’t know if there is better

is it possible to be happy with the way things are, the way things were, but still yearn to change

to still want more

and to run away from what you already know and what you already understand

can you be happy with maybe?

With the possibility of maybe?

With hope?

I know the scenery will change, the faces will change, the feelings will change, the craft will change

And change again

I know I’ll uproot, reroot, deroot.

Miss my roots.

i know i'll change

i'll move again

it's hard to sit still

and I have no idea what I’m doing letting go of the hands that ground me

and it scares me to death

here’s to another move.

And more growth.

And missing his Steady, Patient Hands.

It began with a blight of the potato crop that left acre upon acre of Irish farmland covered with black rot. As harvests across Europe failed, the price of food soared. Subsistence-level Irish farmers found their food stores rotting in their cellars, the crops they relied on to pay the rent to their British and Protestant landlords destroyed. Peasants who ate the rotten produce sickened and entire villages were consumed with cholera and typhus. Parish priests desperate to provide for their congregations were forced to forsake buying coffins in order to feed starving families, with the dead going unburied or buried only in the clothes they wore when they died.
