Butternut squash with a dollop of blue cheese on a wee piece of crisp bread......delicious, healthy! Gone fast....
I love a good trail. I love it when it pays off with some wonderful scenery or just opens your mind to the world around you.

I have never seen the lake freeze completely over in one night, but record cold temps of -4F/-20C last night did the job. There was no ice at all when I went to bed. I don't expect it to last, however, as a bright sun even now looks to be working on it and the forecast actually calls for a few days in the 40sF/4-5C ahead...as mentioned previously, a range we have yet to see at all this year.
While driving to a nearby wildlife refuge I couldn't resist pulling over to watch the sunrise over the river (oh and take a couple of pictures as well).

This is the first time I have been able to photograph this not so rare bird. They seem to like the diet of overripe berries and are known to get drunk as the berries may start to ferment.
It's not easy to get the details on this overcast day as the feathers are of extremely fine texture.

Each new day brings with it,
Opportunities yet to be,
And, as they are unfolding,
Who knows what we will see?

The snow has begun to fall this afternoon in central Illinois and it may be slowing traffic down, but it makes no difference to the trains. After waiting for a northbound CN train to cross the diamond at Tolono, these two trains got the signal to proceed, resulting in a short-term race just west of town. The autoparts train on the main (right side) quickly passed up local train D91 on the siding due to the siding's restricted speed.
This morning I returned to Start Point lighthouse on the South Devon coast and was rewarded with a pretty sunrise.
Capturing the lighthouse light on was a bonus.
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. -
When one beginning reaches it’s end, it is time for a new beginning.

This is the wall and fence that stops people walking around the lighthouse at Start Point - not much of a deterrent from what I could see. The Coast Path follows the headland around to the beautiful beach at Mattiscombe Sands.
