Thanx for Viewin, Favin, and Commentin on my Stream!
Maybe I've done enough, finally catching up, for the first time I see an image of my brokenness, utterly worthy of love.
And I finally see myself through the eyes of no one else, it's so exhausting on this silver screen where I play the role of anyone but me.
I finally see myself, unabridged and overwhelmed. A mess of a story I'm ashamed to tell, but I'm slowly learning how to break this spell.
Now I only want what's real, and I'll leave my greatest failures on display with an asterisk*
*Worthy of love anyways
The Starfield Library (스타필드 도서관), also known as Byeolmadang Library (별마당 도서관), is one of Seoul’s most iconic libraries. Located inside the underground Starfield COEX Mall in Gangnam District, it opened to the public on May 31, 2017.
Its most striking feature is the set of three towering bookshelves, each about 13 meters tall, which frame an open area of 2,800 square meters. The library houses around 50,000 books and 600 magazines, all available for on-site reading, as there are no lending services.
The space is modern and well-lit, with reading areas equipped with tables and power outlets, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere that contrasts with the busy mall around it. It also serves as a cultural hub, hosting free events such as author talks, readings, exhibitions, and small concerts.
Admission is free, and it is open daily from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM. The library is directly connected to Samseong Station (Line 2) and Bongeunsa Station (Line 9), making it an easily accessible stop for both locals and visitors.

I'm loving the stars on his tie and the harsh light from our own home star in this street capture.
Did you all see the amazing images from the James Webb Space Telescope?
So many incredible galaxies spinning so many millions of light years away and each containing millions upon millions, maybe trillions, of stars! It's incredible to comprehend the vastness and that these images are just a tiny portion of the known universe. I look at such images and am utterly convinced that there is intelligent life out there amongst the stars, just as we are, and I think it would be incredibly conceited to think otherwise!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend of photography my Flickr friends - stay safe and keep the shutters firing!

Been away from SL a lot -- so many new things going on at other virtual worlds. Here is a screen shot from one of the areas in the game Starfield (more images from game to come. But I've also been at Guild Wars2 with recent DLC.
Revisited old project I never finished. It is taken at Øland, close to Kalmar in Sweden. This small half Island is home to a lot of old protected landmarks. These old windmills are scattered across the landscape as this is a very windy place. Skies are an impressive Bortle 2 class making for some brilliant stargazing. This is a 6 panel mosaic shot at 24mm on a H-alpha modified Sony A74.
Excerpt from english.seoul.go.kr/starfield-library-coex/:
Starfield Library, located in the center of COEX Mall, is considered as one of the most captivating libraries in Seoul. It features an enormous 13-meter-tall bookshelf ensconced in a 2,800-square-meter atrium that is perfect for reading and studying comfortably under ambient lighting.
Starfield Library is not only grand in size, but also its scale of collection—it holds approximately 70,000 books that vary in genre, ranging from the humanities and economics to books on hobby and in foreign language, as well as approximately 600 domestic and international magazines, celebrity books, and even e-books.
Starfield Library is great for not only reading various books, but also for studying as it has various types of tables equipped with power plugs for laptop use. What’s more, various events are also held here, such as book-themed cultural events from author talks and poetry readings to lectures and literary concerts.
Visiting Starfield Library during the day and at evening is completely different—the evening ambiance of the dimly lit atrium gives a new experience of leisure after a long day of hard work.

Another year, and another image of our nearest galactic neighbour. I keep saying I'm not shooting this one "this year", but always end up doing it anyway just because it's such an awesome target. And this time is no different.
This HDR image is composed of 5 hours' worth of 3 minute exposures for the main body of the galaxy and another run of 2 hours' worth of 30 second exposures for the core.

A macro view of a colorful soap bubble standing in as a planet, with a star field as a background.
Strobist/technical info:
The visible portion of the soap bubble spans about an inch. It was illuminated by a single Nikon SB900 speedlight placed 90° CL, one-foot away from and two-feet above the subject, pointing down at 45°. The speedlight was fired in Manual mode @ ½ power through a Neewer 24" x 24" soft box.
The SB900 was triggered by two PocketWizard Plus X's.
The star field was created in Gimp 2.10.

Screen cap from the game Starfield - using the in-game camera too. Interesting new locations and quests to follow.
Feels like some textures were redone as well, looks a little better than before.

This was my third photo in my first attempt at a starfield using the high ISO properties of my D600. I was, quite frankly, stunned by what it picked up from the sky. This is a 20 second exposure from last night. There's a waxing crescent moon right on setting behind me and the illumination on the trees comes from behind closed curtains of the house I was (staying in) shooting in front of ... that's the sea beyond Malua Bay in bottom left of frame.
There's a monochrome version of this that truly sings but I wanted to post the colour version first.
I took this on a recent trip up to Scotland with some friends. During the day it was a drunken mess of radio controlled toys crashing into things, and by night uncontrolled people crashing into more things. But managed to find a few moments to snap this wide starfield panorama from the balcony.
Seoul's massive Starfield Library is a bibliophile's dream come true. The library is located inside a mall and is a two story wonder of light and glass. It has 50,000 books on 3 gigantic bookshelves each measuring about 43 feet tall. The books on the shelves are for display purposes only but they sure add to the grand scale of the place.
Daisies, family Asteraceae, often have fluorescent pollen. Sunflowers are a part of that family and are no exception. Glowing yellow under an ultraviolet light, the pollen coats the flower petals with illuminated points of light like a field of stars. UV fluorescence photography is really easy to explore, you only need darkness and a UV flashlight!
UVIVF. Let’s break that down: Ultraviolet-induced visible fluorescence. This happens when UV light strikes a subject and is able to excite the electrons in certain atoms. Those electrons rise to a higher orbit, but instantaneously decay back to their original location. This spends a small amount of energy, so the light that is re-emitted from the subject now has less energy. UV light then transforms into visible light, and you can use your ordinary camera and lenses, so special equipment or filters required. The UV flashlight / torch I most commonly recommend is the Convoy S2. It’s all you need to start exploring this wonderful unseen world.
Sunflowers hold a special place in my heart because they tend to fluoresce blue and yellow, while simultaneously being the national flower of Ukraine. Today marks 150 days since the Russian Federation decided to destroy the sovereignty of the largest nation in Europe. They have not succeeded. I am continuously amazed at the resolve of the Ukrainian people, and I am thrilled to continue to support them in any way we can. Most recently we have contributed funds to purchase a surveillance drone for citizen soldiers, and we have two solar generators on order for use near the front lines. The people of Ukraine are the strongest that I have ever seen in my lifetime, and I’m glad that the world is coming to their aid.
It's also a great example of leadership, good and bad. Corruption runs deep in many Eastern European countries (probably all countries?) and this war has allowed for the discovery and dismantling of significant Russian influence. While Russia regroups for their next move, Ukraine uses the most precise and damaging weapons to erase countless enemy ammunition depots. The war is in one of the most peaceful moments, where weapons of intense destructive and terrorizing force are being systemically ruined.
Putin’s methodology for forward progress is sinister. He is forcibly conscripting Ukrainian men in occupied regions to fight for Russia – holding their families for ransom in the process. “Referendums” loom in various regions where the population will vote to be annexed by Russia. The Russian forces interview the population and if you say you’d vote for Ukraine, you are deported by force. This isn’t just a fight for some big country in Eastern Europe you’ve never visited, it’s a fight against the tyrannical actions of one of the most powerful countries on the planet. Putin’s Kleptocracy allows for these deceitful strategies, but it is also what has left his military weak and untrained.
Through this series of images supporting Ukraine, I have encouraged many ways to help. We heard of a Ukrainian restaurant that just opened up here in Varna earlier this month, Stefania: www.facebook.com/stefania.rest/ - the food was marvelous and it’s staffed by Ukrainians. It reminded me of the food being served today at my own Ukrainian family reunion taking place in Canada this very day. It’s important to support those around you affected by this conflict.
It also reminds me of the simple act of being kind to strangers. Around me, there are many people who have seen the terrors of this war. You never know what story someone is simply not telling you. As with all images in this series, I deliberately place “Starfield” into the Public Domain. More to come. Sorry for my absence in posting, life can get busy. I’ve used the proceeds from some of my own professional activities recently to further support Ukraine, and I would hope that world does not turn away from this continuing tragedy. There’s always more we can do.
Neverending bookshelf at the Starfield Library, COEX mall, Seoul. Although the collection of books are impressive and are a wide array of themes, the Starfield Library is more of a photo opportunity for Instagram rather than a legitimate source of reading materials.

Another photograph of a remote icy planet, Hoth.
First, I was thinking to make that starfield in-camera, but I thought, I would get better result in Ps. It's just a starfield, after all! Planet in there is photographed in my studio today. I'm confident that there's more to come in this series in the future. This was just a third take on session which I wanted to share with you all guys and gals!

Of course the stars in the winter Atacama Desert are SO bright that you can literally get a starfield with a handheld camera... but this was my first go with the tripod. That's Jupiter towards the middle.

Looking at the underside of the wings on this green-banded peacock (Papilio palinurus), I can't help thinking the white scales look a bit like stars in the night sky.
This is one of my favourite species I've come across at the Haga Ocean butterfly house - especially the other side of the wings like here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52991594684/
