The tallest building in Hong Kong

Are we losing this 142-year-old Hong Kong icon...

'Hong Kong’s Star Ferry is struggling to cover salaries, pay off loans after logging HK$70 million in losses over past 2 years. The company’s general manager says it has gone into ‘negative equity’... "In view of the threats posed by the current environment, I am afraid I can’t be optimistic for Star Ferry to survive this wave," says David Chow.' -- South China Morning Post (Mar 2022)

Shot from Kowloon Side against Hongkong Island with the Sony ILCE-7M2 and the Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 OSS GMaster at F=2.8! A foggy Morning in Hongkong.

This was taken with my Sony mobile phone while travelling in Hong Kong. It was next to the entrance to a handcraft shop at the Star Ferry Concourse in Tsim Sha Tsui. The mixed natural and artificial lighting on the brick wall made the mural very realistic, especially the shades and shadows.

"Smiling HeART” is a social enterprise selling handcrafts that made by people in recovery from mental illness, especially the women with depression. It aims to promote social inclusion, and to raise public awareness on mental health. The mural was painted by an unknown artist.

“Smiling HeART” originates from a story of a group of women with emotional distress. They determine to get out of emotional illness and regain confidence through handcrafts creation. This group of ordinary housewives was suffered from depression due to various pressures. Every day, they need to face tremendous emotional distress and deal with endless social discrimination. Surprisingly, handcrafts creation has created a comfort zone for them. During the process of stitching, they not only find their inner peace, but also rebuild their self-confidence.

China, Beijing, .....it is not a science fiction, it is an authentic photo.

…starry, starry night, the “Birds Egg”, the nickname for the Grand National Theatre, west of the Tiananmen Square with back of the Great Hall of the People on the left side of the picture & diagonal opposite the Forbidden City.

The ellipsoid dome of titanium & glass is surrounded by an artificial lake, the entrance is leading into the building after walking through a tunnel like hallway underneath the lake. Small unregularly placed lights installed on the outside shell of the construction seem to blend in with the stars on the sky,…if it is not clouded, but even so

The arts centre containing an opera, music & theatre hall, with a total of seats 5,452 people in the three halls with almost 12,000 m² in size. Construction, designed by French architect Paul Andreu, started in December 2001, the inaugural concert was held in December 2007.

The dome measures 212 mtr by 144 mtr & is 46 meters, seven floors public area high. The main entrance is at the north side. Guests arrive in the building after walking through a hallway that goes underneath the lake.

Photo taken from the border of the pool surrounding the National Theatre above the main entrance, facing the lightened, glass roof covered “tunnel” leading towards the building.

I can't get enough of the view back to Hong Kong Island from Kowloon. -- Come catch it with aperturetours.com

Wipe those sad bokeh tears away.

Happy Bokeh Hangover! ;p

I love this song

Hongkong Island Central Star Ferry Pier with Flyer, Hongkong Stock Exchange, International Finnance Center 1 and 2, The Center, COSCO Building.

I first boarded the Star Ferry in 1992, shortly after arriving in Hong Kong. I still take it regularly today from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central, and can honestly say that none of its fun, magic or charm have diminished one iota in all that time. National Geographic placed it in their '50 Places of a Lifetime' for travellers to experience, sounds about right to me.

How could I have not been in love with this city...

Part of Hongkong`s Skyline - a place to photograph again and again!

Star Ferry Hongkong, with Sony NEX-7 and the Zeiss Batis 1.8/85mm at F=2.0.

Cruise liner 'Piano Land' (formerly P&O Cruises 'Oriana') heads east after leaving Ocean Terminal in Kowloon; Star Ferry 'Day Star' heads away from Wan Chai Ferry Pier. Tiny by comparison, another Star Ferry working the Kowloon-Central service appears by the stern of the liner.

China, Shanghai, “Shanghai World Financial Centre”, SWFC a 492 mtr high tower opened in 2008 & positioned in the Pudong financial district. The skyscraper consisting of offices, hotel, conference rooms, observation decks & ground-floor shopping malls. Park Hyatt Shanghai located in the tower comprising 174 rooms & suites occupying the 79th to the 93rd floors.

The SWFC opened to the public August 2008 with three separate observation decks the height of the lowest observation deck, located on the 94th floor, is 423 mtr; the second on the 97th floor at a height of 439 mtr & the highest, the skywalk, on the 100th floor, at 474 mtr.

The original design of the SWFC tower had a circle in the top of the tower, symbol of the rising sun, because of the past Chinese - Japanese history the controversial design was not accepted, as an alternative the top got the rectangular opening with the skywalk, leading to the nickname of the skyscraper the “Bottle opener”

Since weather changes very fast in Shanghai in can happen, you arrive at the SWFC in plain blue sky & sunshine, once you reach the top, takes about 1,5 hours depending on the line, a 15 minutes introduction of the SWCF, security checks & elevator occupancy, the weather has changed, you find yourself up in or above the clouds, but it changes again very fast.

However, it is worthwhile taking the time & spending some time really to explore the views & the different levels of the tower.

China, Beijing, Chinese Ethnic Cultural Park, ….a pond with White Muscovy Duck, culinary better known as Barbary Duck.

The Barbary duck comes originally from a wild flight duck breed living in trees in South America. The breed brought to Europe by Christophe Columbus & domesticated in the 16th century.

Males about weighing up to 7 kg, females are considerably smaller & only grow to 3 kg, it is a robust & easy to breed.

The meat, in contrast to Beijing & other ducks, has a higher proportion of meat, is dark red & the ratio of breast to leg is larger in proportion to the leg, the weight of a female Barbary duck breast is around 350 grams, the male up to 450 grams.

The Chinese Ethnic Cultural Park, sometimes also called Museum, opposite of the Olympic Park & the Olympic stadium, representing the 56 ethnic groups living in the Peoples Republic of China their culture & heritage. Each group is extensively presented in the park in his own area, with folkloric groups & shops, houses or even small villages, their way of living, handicraft production for sale to visitors, or typical dishes for direct consumption & small tea rooms

To visit this area you should count at least for two days, it is worthwhile, the largest area is dedicated to Tibet. The park had been created with focus on detailed regional authenticity & is almost completely unknown by tourists, even little known by the people living in Beijing, therefore the museum park is never really crowded.

One of my Skyline Morning Shots from Kowloon Side.

Always amazing the Quality of the Sony/Zeiss FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS.

Well, the title has little to do with the picture, I know, but just thought Hongkongers have to be smarter, a lot smarter.
