So, it turns out animal families are not all that different from human families... Daddy is chilling on the beach uninterrupted while mommy is chasing the kids in the water! :)

Enjoy your week!

Mein Model, ein Star

Dream

I was a little girl

Alone in my little world

Who dreamed of a little home for me

I played pretend between the trees

And fed my house guests bark and leaves

And laughed in my pretty bed of green

I had a dream

That I could fly from the highest swing

I had a dream

Long walks in the dark through woods grown behind the park

I asked God who I'm supposed to be

The stars smiled down on me

God answered in silent reverie

I said a prayer and fell asleep

I had a dream

That I could fly from the highest tree

I had a dream

Now I'm old and feeling gray

I don't know what's left to say about this life I'm willing to leave

I lived it full and I lived it well

There's many tales I lived to tell

I'm ready now, I'm ready now

I'm ready now to fly from the highest wing

I had a dream

I was a little girl

Alone in my little world

Who dreamed of a little home for me

While I was in Central Australia recently, I thought I would have a go at star trails. It is not often that you have wonderful views of the stars, you can leave you camera unattended for long periods and not have to worry about dew getting on the lens or someone taking your camera. I took the easy approach and took a single long exposure rather than multiple exposures.

My first attempt was a complete failure. I had high ISO noise reduction switched on and I thought my camera was malfunctioning when the camera kept processing for minutes and minutes. This is one of the next attempts. It was for only about 10 1/2 minutes so the trails are very short.

The trees are desert oaks, Allocasuarina decaisneana

Don't think this is the star for the top of my tree! But thought this clever little fly deserved it's place on Flyday! HFDF Hope you all manage a fun day and weekend. ;0)

here is lulu's "blood bank of hawai'i" public service television spot!

(the dog star sirius-ly has nothing on lulu :)

a pun-as-homage to the generous, wonderful Bill Adams who made this possible.. :)

HUGE thanks to Bill for transposing this from vcr to dvd and then to flickr-friendly digital! (he even arranged to have the vcr transported from our island to his!)

no way i could ever thank Bill enough for this Gift .. truly a gift that keeps on giving ~~~

our luluheart was 2 1/2 when she made this .. and it was on t.v. (all the time :) here in hawai'i for 5 years!

(they called it - thus her - "fred" .. afterwards they said they wished they had changed the name because lulu did such a great job bringing in blood donors with this t.v. spot that it deserved to be called "lulu" :)

am so happy you get to see her dear wiggly-joyful walk and wagging tail! :)))

my favorite part is sweet-subtle.. if you look carefully, you can see her eyes open and her eyebrows go up just as it fades to white in the middle of the video..

this is a wee way for us to express our thanks to you for sending precious lulu your love-filled healing blessings ~~*

as soon as i'm able to gather some moments (and my thoughts), will write on the other image about how she is doing

our hearts are full of lovelight for you, each one *

I’m finding it hard to get the tree out of my mind, the tree, our tree. It’s one of those horrible WHY moments in my life that have stunned me, John Lennon’s assassination, the twin towers, Brexit and now our tree. I keep saying our tree because it was our tree, not Robin Hoods tree, our tree, it’s a place on the map it was the most beautiful icon of the North East. I viewed many beautiful photos yesterday and read the words, shock, disbelief and memories, some said simply “no words” which is understandable, although I need to share my words or they just rattle about in me. I’ve taken many a photo of the tree and I always intend to go and get that special sunrise, backed by the Aurora, arcing with the milky way or a snowy day with ice hanging from it’s branches. It’s never to be now. However I can’t stop thinking am I and photographers like me are partly to blame for this tragedy, forever posting photos on social media making the tree more famous, more attention. If it never had this cult notoriety maybe it would still be happily standing today watching the many pilgrims walking the wall, maybe the mindless moron who ended its days would have been oblivious of its existence, maybe. Too many questions, too many thoughts which time will bury but not really heal. Anyway here is my last goodbye star tree.

Handheld from the bottom of a rushing creek. I went in thinking the shot would be perfect from up above on the bridge behind me but after some exploring...

It's the unintended shot that makes my day.

Alaska Railroad's southbound Denali Star that runs from Fairbanks to Anchorage is seen crossing the Tanana River on the Mears Memorial Bridge in Nenana Alaska. There are two Denali Stars that run daily, one northbound and one southbound between Anchorage and Fairbanks during the busy summer tourist season in Alaska. This 12 hours run through Alaska will take riders through some of the most incredible scenery in the country. Some of the highlights of the trip would be views of Denali if the weather allows, crossing the famous Hurricane Gulch Bridge, riding through Denali National Park, and passing through the Healy Canyon.

Here in Nenana, the Alaska Railroad crosses the Mears Memorial Bridge. This is the location, on the north side of the bridge, where the Alaska Railroad was completed. The completion of this bridge allowed access to the mineral rich regions of Central Alaska to flow by rail to the coastal cities of Anchorage and Seward. The bridge is just over 1300ft long with a main span of 700ft which at the time of its construction in 1923 was the largest truss span in the United States.
