I have an old desk item, a pen and pencil holder, which was covered with stamps and varnished long ago. The stamps all seem to date from 1939 to 1950. This stamp is one of them.

When he was young, my brother David invented his own stamp collection with series of stamps he drew himself and then placed carefully on pages with stamp hinges. Mom recently found this collection while she was sorting through her own stamp collection. I love the thoughtful and hilarious series titles like "Problems With Tree Houses", "Bike Accidents", and "Disasters While (fill in the blank)". The dark humor of many of the illustrations is just wonderful. You can really see his personality and creativity in these tiny works of art.

This 1977 Bulgarian postage stamp commemorates a bronze coin from the reign of Roman Emperor Septimius Severus (193–211 AD). The coin was minted in Serdica, the ancient city that corresponds to modern-day Sofia. The stamp’s design features both sides of the coin rendered in deep green: the obverse shows a portrait of Septimius Severus, while the reverse depicts a temple façade with a standing figure inside. The inscription identifies the stamp’s origin as the People’s Republic of Bulgaria and its denomination as 1 stotinka. It reflects Bulgaria’s appreciation for classical antiquity and its historical ties to the Roman world.
