5 min walk from home, setup on corner of street, and wait. 20sec is roughly all you get and kudos to the professional photographers who shoot these events. Not bad for my first try, If I do say so myself.

Who says our police officers don't have a sense of humour!
Wouldn't be the Malerweg without steps!
This part of the Malerweg overlaps with the Rauersteingratweg, which dates from 1885. This would have originally been a sandstone or wooden wooden stairs. The metal stairs probably date from 1968.

After leaving Osaka we just went around the corner to stay the next four days in Kyoto. The city is full of sights, old buildings, a buzzing downtown, traditional streets, nice nightlife, very interesting nature around the city itself. The best is that Kyoto is rather flat. That's why we rented a bike and were riding through the city for one day. It was totally worth it, we saw so many things. Some of them will be introduced here, of course :-)
This was also the first night after a while that we stayed in a proper hostel again. I mean a real (!) hostel with 16 beds in one room. The good thing was that some cool guys were lingering around as well. Kai for example :-)
Anyway, the hostel we stayed in had a roof where Kai and me drunk some beer and so we got drunk the first time over the roofs of Kyoto. Strangely the roof was not very crowded the first night, so we had to do it on our own. But we had some music and a great view and some cool days ahead of us!
The picture itself is a little blurred. Unfortunately I had no tripod in Japan and the light under the trees was a little poor. So it's not perfectly sharp, but in the small version here it doesn't really matter
I also want to thank Ryan (stage8) for writing me such a nice testimonial. If you particularly like street shots you should visit the link at once and skip the commenting here. If you are interested in photography in general still visit it :-)
Another shot from this year’s Tour de France. A little different this one as the front riders are seen spread way across a wide road. This shot was on Stage 8 in Northern France from Dreux to Amiens. The location is in the village of Marseille-En-Beauvaisis 53 kilometres from the finish in Amiens. I had chosen a sharp bend looking down a hill coming up through the town. This gave the opportunity to get head on shots of the riders unobstructed by spectators. I had some worries at one point when 3 gendarmes decided to stand right in front of me and have a chat. Luckily they moved away as the race got nearer.
For this picture I was struck by the colours and the grouping into teams. I also liked the hand raised from one rider not to answer a question in school but usually done to attract the attention of team cars behind usually due to a puncture or other mechanical problem. The Tour riders will spread out across a road in what is called an echelon to gain protection from the wind with each one slightly behind the next though here it may have been because there was space to do it.
Congratulations to Geraint Thomas for his win in the Tour being the 3rd Briton and 1st Welshman to win this amazing sporting event in just 6 years
The shot was taken handheld with a Sony A68 with a Tamron 28-200mm zoom at 200mm. Editing was first in RAW using Capture One. More detail using Topaz Clarity. Then an adjustment layer to brighten the riders faces using a mask so really little editing needed.

This is a shot taken on Stage 8a of the Tour of Britain 2014 in London along Whitehall on Sunday. The last day of the race was spit in 2 with first a Time Trial and then a city road circuit race. I took this shot just after the rider came out of the start ramp.
The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 28-200 zoom at 35mm.
No HDR this time but a lot of editing first in RAW and then Photoshop. The main change was to add pan movement using Topaz Lens Effects in the background which has the advantage of all the rider being kept sharp while more movement is added to the picture. A selection was made of rider and bike and then saved for use with subsequent edits on adjustment layers including brightening the rider and darkening the background.

Stage 8,of the 2011 Tour of Britain Cycle Race in London. The police outriders were VERY busy today. For the time trial event they escorted each rider individually; and the cyclists were leaving every minute. After that they escorted the celebrity race, the public race and finally the actual stage 8.

Looking towards the Bastei, a highlight the second stage on the Malerweg.
The Malerweg is is like a flattened reversed C shape - with five stages to the north of the Elbe and three stages on the south.
