I took this photo on Christmas day before we had our first snow of the season. I tried to play around with blurring some parts of the image to give a bit more of an impressionistic feel. I wanted the image to be muted and focus on the last of the Autumnal colors. #stackablesapp #lake #serene #boat #boating #texture #textured #textures #texturejunkie

A couple summers ago I'd had the opportunity to go for a walk along an arroyo that had undergone "urban gentrification."
I had been shooting with my trusty iPhone 5, already 4 years old at that time, and the hipstamatic app.
In those days I'd choose a combination of filters that hipstamatic would call lens, film, and flash.
I'd shoot a scene with favorite combos.
I came across this image at the beginning of December, and after a few edits in Lr, sent it back to the phone (now an iPhone 7 Plus) to see what might result with editing in some newer (to me) apps. That's why Flickr tags seem somewhat contradictory regarding which phone was used.
I came up with several variations using the Stackables app, sent them all back to the computer, and played with combining bits of each in Ps. I thank my lucky stars every day for the ability to create masks in Ps.
It's interesting how thinking changes over time.
Even in this short time from 02 December, when I played with this image, to now, the changes in my thoughts and feelings would have me approach this image differently.
It's not that I no longer like this image. But you know that mental dialogue, "if I just do this" with it...
So how do we know when "it's done?"
Thankfully in this case it's not that I've lost interest.
But when I view this critically, I see that I accomplished what I had set out. The diagonals of shadow, line and hue, the contrasts of light and dark are where I had wanted them to be, and not just in location.
May you find a place to perch and ponder on this bench Monday.

Chapter 5: Dispirited & Fractured - That's the problem when people reveal things they shouldn't, and there is only one side of the story. And you have a hint of the other side. When the dust settles, a split in your psyche occurs. You end up asking the question: why did you do that? You've tried to cast doubt on someone else but instead you've hurt yourself, and disappointed me ... your friend. Their past with you was not relevant.
