St. Peter"s Cathedral in Marquette, Michigan has been rebuilt several times. Fires have consumed the church, leaving only the exterior sandstone walls that have stood since 1881.
This magnificent Cathedral has been here in London Ontario since 1885. If you would like to see my other Flickr site called Creative Bling....just give a click as i have in fact done two effect's treatments of this photo as well as on many others.

I appreciate it 😊
One of the holiest sites of Christianity and Catholic Tradition, it is traditionally the burial site of it's titular, St. Peter who was the head of the twelve Apostles of Jesus and, according to tradition, the first Bishop of Antioch and later the first Bishop of Rome, rendering him the first Pope.

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!
This is my final in the series of St. Peter's Cathedral.
Here i am showing the backside which shows the older Cathedral (1885) and the newer background 2021 uprising apartments or condos...i am not sure.
So you see the older ties blend in perfectly with the new ties.

I have taken some work leave in Oct this year but no plan on what to do next. After processing this shot, I have this crazy thought that I should revisit Italy and perhaps other parts of Europe which I have not been to. However South America & Antarctica has always been high up on my list for 2016. Its either this or that unfortunately since money don't just grow from the tree :)

The nave of St. Peter's Cathedral, which is the largest cathedral in the world. As you can see, the interior is very ornate. I thought how the sunlight filtered in from the dome was cool.
The floor of the nave has markings on it indicating the length of other prominent cathedrals. I spent some time looking for St. Paul's Cathedral, which I visited in London. It took me a while to find it, because it is almost as long as St. Peter's Cathedral. Thus, its marking was near the back of the cathedral and I had started looking closer to the middle. (It seems that St. Paul's Cathedral is the third largest cathedral in the World behind St. Peter's Cathedral and the Cathedral of Chartres in France).
St Peter's Cathedral, Lancaster Diocese. Another HDR shot of the cathedral depicting the wonderful roof trusses and the ornate ceiling above The Altar. Long exposures around the 20 second mark.

According to Wikipedia, St. Peter's Basilica is a Late Renaissance church located within Vatican City. Designed principally by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. St. Peter's is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and remains one of the largest churches in the world. While it is neither the mother church of the Roman Catholic Church nor the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, St. Peter's is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic sites. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as "the greatest of all churches of Christendom". By Roman Catholic tradition, the basilica is the burial site of its namesake Saint Peter, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and, also according to tradition, the first Bishop of Rome and therefore first in the line of the papal succession. Tradition and some historical evidence hold that Saint Peter's tomb is directly below the altar of the basilica. For this reason, many Popes have been interred at St. Peter's since the Early Christian period. There has been a church on this site since the time of Constantine the Great. Construction of the present basilica, replacing the Old St. Peter's Basilica of the 4th century, began on 18 April 1506 and was completed on 18 November 1626. St. Peter's has many strong historical associations, with the Early Christian church, the papacy, the Protestant Reformation and Counter-reformation, and with numerous artists, most significantly Michelangelo. As a work of architecture, it is regarded as the greatest building of its age and is one of the four churches of Rome that hold the rank of Major Basilica. Contrary to popular misconception, it is not a cathedral as it is not the seat of a bishop; the cathedral of the Pope (as Bishop of Rome) is located in the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran.
Also included in this image are other Vatican buildings, the Tiber River, the Pont Sant'Angelo and a small part of Castel Sant'Angelo.
