Cnoc Bhaile Shláine, Contae an Mhí . . . Slane Hill, County Meath, taken last Saturday on a trip to counties Meath and Louth.
There are interesting ecclesiastical ruins on the hilltop and an old cemetery, but the hill is best known as the place where St. Patrick lit the Paschal Fire back in the 400s. The views from the summit are spectacular, day or night.
This was a handheld shot from the entrance gate, after rushing down from Old Mellifont, where the darkness prevented me from taking ANY pictures.
The badges of the first three soldiers read :- Sweeney, O'Brien O'Leary. Wonder where they are from?
It's been a wonderful weekend spent with great friends, but I'm glad to be home. No time to rest yet as there is still much to be done before this day is over.
