St. Nicholas' Church, Tallinn, Estonia.

St Nicholas’ Church

Situated in Arne Road, Arne, DORSET BH20 5BJ

The church was built in the early 13th century by the order of the Abbess of Shaftsbury and dedicated to St Nicholas of Myra. The building was first a chantry (a building dedicated to the saying of prayers or singing of hymns). It was then annexed by the Holy Trinity Church, Wareham as a Chapel of Ease (St Nicholas was a church used by the parishioners of Wareham to attend when it was too difficult to attend their main church).

The church consists of a body and a chancel, under one roof with a porch and a buttress. The architecture is early English. The East window is a triple lancet and can be used to dating the church to about 1220. There are a few other 13th lancet windows on both north and south walls. The walls are ironstone and the roof is tiled and partly stone slates. It is remarkably unchanged since its early construction.

There is a bell but no tower. The bell is hung in the roof space at the west end of the church. The original bell was installed in 1625 but then replaced in 1782. This new bell cast by the company Chapman and Mears. There were restorations in the 19th century and in 1952 but I cannot find out what they were.

The church is sat upon a mound and has a fine view from the altar window over the harbour. It has also won an award for the quality of wildflowers in the Churchyard.

The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on the Waters is an Orthodox church on the Dnieper near the Podol embankment in Kyiv. It’s the first and only temple in Ukraine, located in the water area. It’s height is 23 meters. A 15-meter bridge approaches the church from the shore. The church can accommodate about 50 people

At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a Russian-style chapel of St. Nicholas on the Kyiv river pier, built at the expense of the city's water rescue society, and destroyed in the 1930s. Temples on the waters are traditionally considered monuments to the dead rivermen and sailors.

The construction of the church began on December 19, 2003 on the day of St. Nicholas and was carried out at the expense of the Ukrrichflot company. The authors of the project are Yuri Lositsky and Elena Miroshnichenko.

In 2004, the church of St. Nicholas was built on alluvial soil. The consecration took place on July 7, 2004, on the feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist, by Vladimir (Sabodan), Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

The icon of St. Nicholas, which is over 200 years old, is kept in the temple.

The shape of the temple slightly resembles a candle of a flowering chestnut tree.

Myra Antik Kenti:

Myra Ancient City - Antalya

The ancient city of Myra, located in and around today's Demre district center, was founded on the plain of the same name. The connection between the city and the sea was provided by the convenient canal to the west of the Myros River (Demre Stream). Sea transportation and trade of the region was also carried out from Andriake (Çayağzı) Port, located on the other side of the canal. The Ancient City of Myra is especially famous for its Lycian Period rock tombs, Roman Period theater and Byzantine Period St. Nicholas Church (Santa Claus).

Rock tombs, Lycian inscriptions and coins, Myra at least BC. They show that it has existed since the 5th century. According to the information given by Strabo, Myra, one of the six big cities of the Lycian League, is referred to as Myrrh in Lycian inscriptions.

WORK. The 2nd century is the period when Myra witnessed a great development. In the city, which was the Metropolis of the Lycian League, many buildings were built and repaired with the help of rich Lycian people. During the Byzantine Period, Myra became one of the leading cities in terms of religion as well as administrative aspects. Its fame, which has reached today, is the name of St. Nicholas' (Santa Claus) İ.S. It owes that he was the bishop of the city in the 4th century and that after his death he reached the rank of saint and built a church in his name.

St. Nicholas Church, Prague, Czech Republic.... “The Church of Saint Nicholas is a Baroque church in the Lesser Town of Prague. It was built between 1704-1755 on the site where formerly a Gothic church from the 13th century stood, which was also dedicated to Saint Nicholas. It has been described as the greatest example of Prague Baroque.” Wikipedia The beauty of this church is breathtaking....I was entranced by all the crystals throughout the church, sparkling like diamonds. Processed with Snapseed, Juxtaposer for the “double exposure”and PhotoToaster.

My very last take here on this visit.

The most widespread opinion among Romanian historians is that the present Densus church was once a Christianised Roman temple, which is to say a Paleo-Christian church from the 4th to 6th centuries AD and it is also the first church on Dacian territory.
