ENG: Rheinsberg Castle is located in the municipality of Rheinsberg, about 100 km northwest of Berlin in the district of Ostprignitz-Ruppin (Brandenburg). Situated on the eastern shore of Lake Grienerick, the castle is considered a prime example of the so-called Friderician Rococo and also served as a model for Sanssouci Palace. The moated castle was built by the "Bredow" family in 1566 and in the course of time passed to Frederick the Great, who had it rebuilt to its present state around 1740. Thus the crown prince experienced the happiest time of his life in Rheinsberg. His younger brother, Prince Heinrich of Prussia, subsequently created an important court of the Muses here and left a lasting impression on the palace and garden in the style of early classicism. In his "Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg" (Walks through the Mark of Brandenburg), Theodor Fontane set a literary monument to the town, and soon afterwards Kurt Tucholsky made Rheinsberg the charming fulfilment of carefree love. Even today, hardly any visitor can escape the charm of the place.

Schloss Köpenick is a Baroque water palace of the Hohenzollern electors of Brandenburg which stands on an island in the Dahme River surrounded by an English-style park and gives its name to Köpenick, a district of Berlin.

The castle was originally built on the foundations of a Slavic castle (6th century) in 1558 as a hunting lodge by order of Elector Joachim II Hector of Brandenburg. The building in a Renaissance style was located on the river island at the site of the former medieval fort.Today the castle surrounded by a small park serves as the Museum of Decorative Arts, run by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation as part of the Berlin State Museums.

On the evening of June 16, 2024, 1293.194 had a short but photogenic timber transport train on the tail as it passed my position near Weisham. In the background you can see the parish church of St. Laurentius in Bernau, with the Adersberg behind it. On the left two mountain peaks of the Chiemgau Alps, Madonna and the Luchsfallwandl.

The St. Laurentius Chruch lies at the foot of the Rätikon range of the Eastern Alps, part of the micronation of Liechtenstein. The most populous city isn't the capital, but rather Schaan, a community bordering the north of capital Vaduz.

The large peninsula of Angeln was "administered" by the bishops in Lund (Sweden) around 1200, when the church in Satrup was built. They made sure then that still today almost every parish in Angeln has a (sometimes small) Romanesque church. The single nave Laurentius church in Satrup is quite large.

The interior is dominated by the large late Gothic triumphal cross, created around 1500.

The parish of Kalkhorst is mentioned in 1230 in a list of villages belonging to the Ratzeburg diocese At the same time the village church of Kalkhorst was built. It was erected by the lords of the village.

The church of today stands out because of the irregularity of its ground plan and the many additions and alterations. The square tower stands asymmetrically in front.

The choir is dated to around 1350 based on an epitaph and replaced a previous building. The nave is attributed to the 13th century, so it is the older part of the building. The baroque furnishings from the beginning of the 18th century.

The late gothic fresco of the choir. The mouth of hell.

It’s not like I am complaining about colorful skies in general, but this post sunset sky over the city of Saarburg was so intense and had such weirdly structured clouds that I had a hard time to depict it in a somewhat decent way. It really doesn’t happen too often I have to drastically dial down the saturation of the sky with scenes like these.

Best regards,

Marcus

Østerlars Church is a historical building located just north of the village of Østerlars, 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south of Gudhjem on the Danish island of Bornholm, Denmark. It is the largest and, possibly, the oldest of the island's four round churches. Built in about 1160, it was dedicated to St. Lawrence.[1] It consists of an apse, an oval chancel, a large round nave and has three storeys. There is evidence the church was once fortified, the top storey serving as an open shooting gallery.[2]

The church (in Swedish Lunds Domkyrka) was originally built in the beginning of the 12th century in the Romanesque style - the high altar, dedicated to St Lawrence (Sankt Laurentius), was consecrated in 1145. But the church has been altered several times after this, leaving only the apse in its original form. The first of these alterations came as early as after a fire in 1234 in which the church suffered severely. There were also some major renovations made in the 1510s by German artist Adam van Düren. But the most substantial alterations were made by Carl Georg Brunius and Helgo Zettervall in the 19th century when the church was given what they thought was a more clean, medieval look - ignoring later additions to the church, but also ignoring how the church originally had looked like (most notable of these changes being the two western towers seen here where the original towers were torn down and replaced by completely different looking towers of the '19th century gone medieval'-type).
