Extremely windy conditions with 50mph gusts of wind. Lots of sea spray to contend with too. Unfortunately, shortly after taking this, my tripod blew over and broke the tripod head when I was cleaning the filter. My lens was also a bit damaged with the two sections of the lens starting to come apart. Fortunately though the camera was ok other than a broken eye piece which is a very cheap part to replace. The lens carried on working ok and when I got home I managed to repair it with the help of super glue and a YouTube tutorial to take apart the lens. I also managed to get hold of a new tripod head pretty quickly too.

Thanks very much for viewing. Wishing you a very Happy Easter and a lovely weekend.

Display entertaining the G7 meeting, 2021, at Carbis Bay

Took the dog to the beach yesterday thinking it would be empty and quiet, so did scores of other old gits!!! Maybe I'll try after dark. Must check those tide times....

Lone fisherman heads out of the Hayle estuary into St Ives bay on the high tide.

This is a photo from the archives but new to Flickr. It’s from the harbour side of St Ives in Cornwall, UK. The porthole frames the view over St Ives Bay. St Ives has a turquoise sea and light gold sand, always. That’s how I remember it.

St Ives also has treasures that stop me in my tracks. One set of treasures is the Barbara Hepworth sculptures that I keep stumbling across and loving. They’re scattered across the town. The second set of treasures is the thoughtful everyday art, like this window. The major treasure is the glorious light.

I love this stretch of coastline with the sandy beach leading around to Godrevy lighthouse. Definitely liked by many others too and there were lots of surfers out enjoying the waves.

Thanks very much for viewing :-)

Big waves today at Godrevy and masses of Gannets on a feeding, frenzy in the bay......

Taken from Wheal Coates. It was horrible weather but there was just a brief break in the clouds before sunset.

Thanks so much for all of your views, faves and comments. I really appreciate all of the support this year and have thoroughly enjoyed all of your photos too.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very merry Christmas. Wishing you good health and happiness for the New Year.

They say the light in the far south-west is fabulous at any time of year. I couldn't complain for this one, although whether it was exploited well enough for this late-autumn view across St Ives Bay, is open to question.

Given an arty twist - not for everyone!

Take a seat and have a cool drink! Photographed this scene at the amazing St Ives Bay. Godrevy Island can be seen in the distance. Cornwall, 2017.

“The breakers were singing and surging over the rocks of Godrevy called the Nine Maidens. Each of the Stones has its own name: the furthest north-west appears on charts as Heva but its real form, preserved by St. Ives fishermen, seems to be Harva. Then come Deeper, Middle, and Shoaler (shoaler is a 17th-century word meaning ‘shallower’). Nearest to the land is Tide Rock or Quarter-Tide Rock, and the half-mile passage between this and Godrevy island is the Sound or Godrevy Sound. Just outside the island on the west and north-west lies a submerged reef of broken stone over which the waves run and drain. It has several names: Shore Lanner, Maen Launder and even Plenty-to-come-yet, an old term used by fishermen because it was so abundant in lobsters”.

We watched a program last week about the Fishermen of Newlyn whose livelihoods are threatened by not only this mighty Ocean but bureaucracy and mishandling of the fishing rights. Shocking and very sad indeed...

This shot was taken from the top of Trevalgan Hill (NT). In the bay you can see Godrevy Lighthouse.

My first visit to Godreavy to try and catch the sunrise. The sea conditions were near perfect for us and the sun eventually came up from the right with some reasonable colour

As the tide rises on the river Hayle, small boats return with their pots, hopefully full of lobster and spider crab.........

In stormy weather and slow shutter speeds the ghosts of long dead seagulls can be seen returning to their native lands............

On our walk up from Porthtowan we came across this relic , sadly I have been unable to find any information about it, if anyone knows I would like to know too.

This is looking South down the North Coast of Cornwall, you can see Godrevy Island and St Ives in the far distance , Also looking for distant ship smoke on the horizon , if you know Pink Floyd.

By this time time we were making our way back to the car as those lovely clouds looked a little ominous then it started to rain . I looked at the brickwork and thought a face of stone which gave me my title .

Gwithian Towans and Godrevy.

But there seems no end to this present rain.

At least these Towans are well-drained and mud free !

A financial bonus is that the car-park here is also free. in winter.

After being out for a disappointing sunrise some nice clouds uncovered the sun for a brief few moments so I took full advantage and fired off a few frames before the conditions changed again, no time time to put a filter on so this is three exposures blended together. This is over Bamuluz beach St Ives Cornwall.

A nine shot panorama of St Ives Bay, On the right is Godrevy island and on the right somewhere underneath all that low cloud and rain is St Ives . It was blowing a very strong wind which was perfect for the board sailors but not easy to shoot a panorama in , the wind and rain was set for the next few days .

Last week I took another trip to Godrevy Lighthouse and in stark contrast to the evening of the workshop where the sea was flat and gentle, on this evening the waves were in full force giving a spectacular show.

It’s always nice when you bump into another tog at the same location, here on the rocks I met Sean Driscoll and had a nice chat while we were catching the waves in action, hope you got some good shots Sean!
