New York Yankees and Washington Nationals get set for a new season at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida. Lots of evaluations for all teams during Spring Training. Every team needs to narrow their rosters from 40 to 25 men in about 30 days, not much time at all.
There are usually split squads playing different games to those help get evaluations done. Some go up north with the team, others get re-assigned to an affiliate, and yet others are released.
In this game, 18 year old Bryce Harper (2010 overall MLB first round pick) had the chance to travel with the Nationals to play the Yankees, his favorite team as a kid. He was put in the game late and went 1-2 with an RBI. On the other side, Jorge Posada would prepare for his 17th and final season as a New York Yankee (5 time All Star, 4 World Series Rings, and 5 silver slugger bats). He went 1-3 as the designated hitter.
Washington Nationals beat New York Yankees 10-8 on Saturday March 5, 2011.
