In 2010, the Baltimore Orioles finished their first spring training at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida. They signed a 30 year lease. The Cincinnati Reds moved out the year before to Goodyear, Arizona. after 11 years.
Before that, the White Sox first opened it in 1989 until they also moved to train in the Cactus League in 1997. To renovate from the wear and tear, Sarasota County invested $31 million for the Orioles and work would be set to start April 2010. A law suit over the tax dollars delayed that, with no winners to benefit. Right after this game, buses wait outside to jet set both team up north for the season opener.

Mckechnie Field in Bradenton Florida. Despite the interleague series allowing teams from different leagues to play each other. This will be the only time the Tampa Rays and Pittsburg Pirates face each other in 2011, as they were scheduled to compete in the regular season.
The Pirates were just starting to rebuild. They hired Clint Hurdle, one of 16 new managers this year, who would start to lead the Pirates to their first winning season since 1992.
This was also a couple of days before the news that newly acquired Rays Player tested positive for PED's and would face an Eminent second suspension from Baseball. As I walked around the park, I thought it was odd that he would not be at this game. He opted to suddenly retire from Baseball before the season started.

Spring Training is a brand new opportunity for all Great Plains United Methodists who work with youth – youth leaders, Sunday School teachers, pastors, Confirmation mentors, etc. – to be treated like an MVP and learn from a great coach and add to their playbook.
For our inaugural training we had 65 people from 25 congregations come to one of two locations. Friday, April 17 – Saturday, April 18, we were at Trinity UMC in Salina, Kansas. Saturday, April 18 – Sunday, April 19, we were at First UMC in Kearney, Nebraska. Both events started at 6:30 p.m. on the first day and ended at 3 p.m. on the second day.
Each team received a bundle of “major league” resources for use in your ministry.
