Away from it all in the lonely dale

An unfolding fern leaf. These plants are so fascinating to me. They are so photogenic in every part of season, from springtime to autumn they are always so beautiful and different

This has been a hellish week for the poor crocuses - warm enough to pop up, and then a crushing twenty five degree temperature drop to start the weekend, followed by snow overnight last night. For perseverance alone they deserve a medal. Despite the grim setting of wet snow their hardiness is a shot in the arm in these challenging times. To say nothing of the sad early tulip leaf trying to get in on the action.

(Thank you all very much for your comments and faves on my previous spring forest image.) An early morning shaft of sunlight illuminated just enough of the scene to lift the trunk of this old oak which hopefully draws the eye between the hawthorns in peak condition. The midges were also in peak condition!! A penalty for warm still weather in the forest at this time of year, so it was hood up, sleeves tightly wrapped round the wrists and lots of helicopter flaying of arms!! Just as well it was early and no-one was around.

First of the forget-me-nots in beautiful color!!

Thank you so much for your faves, comments and awards and wish you all a great upcoming weekend!!

There are great plantings of daffodils and crocuses at Hilliers Gardens in March.

A photo to help cool off my family and friends on this first official day of summer. Many of whom live in the lower 48 states and have already had temperatures reaching into the high eighties!

(We are predicted to reach a high of 67 degrees Fahrenheit today. Much more to my liking.)

Wishing everyone a happy solstice.
