Some more shots of the beautiful African Daisies that I brought back from our walk up to the school to vote. It is still a cliffhanger but at the moment it looks like Ms Gillard will just scrape in. I hope she has had a big wake up call with the closeness of the result.

We are now in Gympie and will be heading into Hervey Bay tomorrow.The weather today has been overcast with drizzly rain - welcome to "sunny Queensland" LOL..
There's nothing like the spring season ... a new start to many things ... especially for the birds who can't resist what nature is telling them to do. Yes, they begin a period of change as their breeding colors and plumage emerge, they begin to show off for their mate and a courtship period follows. After that's all set up and they "seal the deal", they continue with the process of nest building, eventually taking turns on the nest duties and if all goes well, the chick rearing as well. :-)
If you ever want to observe what true love looks like, at least in the avian world, check out these birds in the spring. It's quite fascinating and I know that it sounds weird, but these birds know a thing or two about affection, caring, and sharing. :-)

The wispy seed heads of the Pasque Flower are attractive in their own right.
[...], another common name for Pasque flower (or "Pasqueflower") is "Easter flower." Pasque is the Old French spelling for "Easter," and it is around that time of year that the plant blooms, in some regions. According to Botanical.com, the famous herbalist, John Gerard, "informs us that he himself was 'moved to name' this the Pasque Flower, or Easter Flower, because of the time of its appearance, it being in bloom from April to June."

I think from memory that these photos are of a Lacewing Butterfly. They were taken at a Butterfly Farm in Stratford upon Avon during our holiday last year.
Dandelion seedheads make a striking colour contrast in the bright green grass.

This cherry tree in our street makes my heart sing year after year and for the lapse of two to three weeks everything looks so much better and friendlier, it is amazing :)

Red Powder Puff or Fairy Duster.
Calliandra is a genus of about 200 species of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae, subfamily Mimosoideae, native to tropical and subtropical regions of southern Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas. The genus comprises herbaceous perennial plants, shrubs and rarely small trees growing 0.5-6 m tall, with bipinnate leaves. The flowers have numerous long slender stamens, and are produced in cylindrical or globose inflorescences; the stamens give rise to the common name of Powder-puff/ Powder puff Plant and Fairy Duster.These plants flower all year round, but the best blooming is in spring and summer. They can be easily pruned.

Another shot from my visit to my neighbour's garden - the insects were out in force that day. This is a native Australian bee - the Blue Banded Bee. I usually hear them before I see them as they are very noisy, but also very fast, so photos can be difficult.
Yesterday was the first day of Spring - a beautiful sunny day. Today I woke to rain pattering on the roof and I decided to stay snuggled in bed for a while longer (Peter is away and can't tell me to get up LOL).I think it is a good day to catch up with all my jobs that I have been putting off since coming home from South Africa.

On this morning's walk I noticed a lot of blue tits checking out potential nesting sites. In a good number of cases there were pairs of birds making frequent visits to a site. They were clearly setting about home refurbishments as they disappeared into a hole in a tree and re-emerged a little later to fly off a dispose of the rubbish they’d found. The blue tit equivalent of stripping the old wallpaper and lifting old carpets. They were all making a point of flying away with the rubbish not just tipping it out the door. Presumably this is both good hygiene and security in not signalling where their nest is.

I am so late coming in to Flickr tonight (a busy day) so I won't be able to add comments tonight. I am adding another flower from my neighbour's garden that I took yesterday and I will catch up with everyone in the morning.
Not sure what this plant is, but each spring it is covered in vibrant colour, as is there bush in the background.
Cette année, le printemps est un véritable festival de beauté! La floraison est abondante et la pluie est aux abonnés absents depuis un certain temps déjà. Nous avons donc tout loisir d'admirer le spectacle et d'en profiter...du pur délice pour les yeux !!
