Today is is the first day of meteorological spring, if not astronomical spring which starts on the 20th March. The weather still has some warming up to do - yesterday morning we had snow, though it all melted before lunchtime. There are, however, lots of spring flowers to be seen in the winter garden at Dunham Massey, including these lovely purple crocuses.
*hehe the dutch word Spring translated to english is Jump* ;)
Another one for the set Celebrating Spring =)
Hope you're all having an awesome weekend!

hope springs eternal
these are scary times, extraordinary measures are in place all over the world. we are about to go on lockdown, and it is crucial that folks stay at home isolated if we are to bring this virus under control.
take care of yourselves and others, be kind and mindful.
and yes, there is cause for celebration, happy first day of Spring!

Extremely tiny buds on a tiny tree branch just starting to awaken. Taking their time opening due to some cool temps right now but warmer temps coming soon. From a very short walk on a walking trail. All handheld on a slightly breezy day so not perfect focus on some as I am rather shaky these days, very shallow DoF since shot wide open for fun this time.
The weather finally broke here last weekend and as soon as that Sun stayed out the local fishermen got out to hit the local waters.

Angus is recovering well - there's a link below to his latest picture which Rachel took today.
Not sure which species these are ... Rich tells me that we have at least Common & Blue Marsh (purple) violets at the wetlands. I've also found some white ones. Rich? Paula? you all around for an ID? The leaves on these are rather heart-shaped but long, not round hearts. I thought that might rule out Common.
In any case, a zillion violets in bloom right now in wet areas in N. Georgia. Rainy & cool here. Have a blessed Sunday!
On a recent hike we spotted the early flowers on the currant plants near the trail. I love these little flowers and was surprised to see them in bloom so soon.Like many other places in the world we are experiencing warmer weather...it's pleasant but disturbing. We spoke to a member of the Elwah Tribe, who were instrumental in the dam removal on the Elwah River which it is hoped, will allow the native salmon return to spawn. Now there is concern that warm temperatures in the Pacific will prevent the fish from returning. I just finished reading "The Sixth Extinction" by Elisabeth Kolbert, which was excellent, but disturbing. I am sad & worried about the obvious signs of planetary change.
Explored! Thank you for all your visit and comments.I really appreciate them.

This winter might be a warm one - but this is (hopefully) still a bit into the future!
Rhipsalidopsis-Sym(Hatiora) are commonly called Easter Cactus or Spring Cactus and originate from Brazil.
Nothing like that warm glow to remind us of Spring! Taken at the Red Butte Gardens at the University of Utah
i found several trees blooming in the canyon below Cornelius Falls recently; i liked this one the best. Cornelius Falls is close to Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Even though the magic of birds singing and flowers blooming and green returning is still happening this spring, somehow this celebration of nature seems muffled this year by the pall of pandemic. I still admire the beauty of spring, but my heart is going out to all those who are suffering - may Heaven help us all ...
"We stand now where two roads diverge. but unlike the roads in Robert Frost's familiar poem, they are not equally fair. The road we have long been traveling is deceptively easy, a smooth superhighway on which we progress with great ease, but at its end lies disaster. The other fork of the road - the one less traveled by - offers our last, our only chance to reach a destination that assures the preservation of the earth."
~ Rachel Carson, "Silent Spring"
These bright blooms come out early every year at the edge of a neighbor's property- so cheery to see! If THEY think it's spring, that's good enough for me!

My farewell greeting to a fabulous spring month of March !!!

Spring flowers covered in an April snowfall from a couple of years back. It looks like we're going to be in for more of the same this year. The forecast for the first day of spring in Boston is yet another Nor'easter, with 10 to 14 inches of snow expected.
So for now, it looks as if my dream is a dream deferred.
