Akemo had been busy this day- and had for many days before. A clinic that was in need of finishing touches, nesting, insane cleaning through the day and a strange craving for fruit. For weeks now she’d been used to the braxton hicks that he body had started going through, even when more times than not she’d been certain they were actual contractions. Even today as she moved through her normal routine, deep breaths as a hand rested against her belly and she closed her eyes. Sweat gathered on her top lip, forehead, across her body from the excursion of moving furniture. She’d always been a petite but active little elf, and pregnancy wasn’t anything to slow her down.
A sharp pain shot through her and she let out a small huff of air, wincing as she tried to crouch down into the pain, closing her eyes and trying to balance on the balls of her feet. Letting out a slow, low breath of air she waited for the pain to pass, glancing at her watch before moving to stand. Leaving the furniture where it sat she made her way over to the water bottle nearby and began to drink, but it wasn't the first one to come. It wasn’t the last. Two hours later she was panting, hand on her belly and leaning against the door of the hospital. A smile touched her lips as helpful hands came to her side, moving her as she waved off the wheelchair and insisted on walking on her own two feet.
Sharp pain, moving up through her spine, and the world swam in the edges of red pain.
Hydration was fed through as a tube as they lead her into a room and checked her- but the contractions were there but she wasn’t progressing. Not enough.
An unfamiliar but friendly face let her know that she would be admitted for observation overnight, and she could call her doctor in when morning came. A nod, happy and content with the medicine that had been given to help take the edge off of her pain through her back. A soft wave back and forth from foot to foot as she let out a long breath, reaching for the cup that held the crushed ice and refilled the water, hand going to her belly as she glanced down with concern.
“It’s a little early babygirl.. we had a few more weeks to go. They say we can take a look tomorrow but tonight everything is okay but apparently somehow I was a little dehydrated…” A soft whistle of air out as her eyes closed and she leaned back, lifting at her belly with a firm hand and sighed as some of the pressure came off of her back.
“It’s almost time… but not yet.”
