The current, still operating Spodsbjerg Lighthouse was built in 1907 and is 9 meters tall. The light height, including the cliffs is 40 meters above sea level. It is located in Hundested close to the house of Knud Rasmussen, the Danish scientist explorer who explored Greenland on several expeditions.

This was my first go at using my newly purchased used Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8 ED VR lens. Man, it is heavy and hard to hold still so I think I will use a tripod in the future, haha.

To the right a cairn in memory of Knud Rasmussen which is situated at a higher point at Knud Rasmussen's House in Hundested. It is built of stone gathered in Greenlandic dwellings.

It was unveiled at a delightful spot beneath Spodsbjerg lighthouse in 1936. The stones for the cairn come from various locations in Greenland.

Knud Rasmussen(/ˈræsmʊsən/; 7 June 1879 – 21 December 1933) was a Greenlandic-Danish polar explorer and anthropologist. He has been called the "father of Eskimology"(now often known as Inuit Studies or Greenlandic and Arctic Studies) and was the first European to cross the Northwest Passage via dog sled. He remains well known in Greenland, Denmark and among Canadian Inuit.

Every year, around January, a Model train exhibition is organised in Rijswijk (South-Holland). And to be honest, quality wise it defers a lot. One year a lot of high quality, new lay-outs, the next year less. But still this Exhibition is on my visiting list every year. This year again a lot of already displayed lay-outs, but also some new, high quality lay-outs. Most of the previously photographed lay-outs were skipped, but still enough the put on my chip.

This cruise liner happened to be passing by, while I was waiting for the ferry at Spodsbjerg after a great day at VUC, Haderslev.

from the ferryboat going to Spodsbjerg from Tårs. I.e. Langeland in the horizon

Denmark used to be "a land of ferries" and partly still is. An important route in the southern part of the country is "Spodsbjerg-Taars" between the islands Langeland and Lolland.

Part of taking a ferry is waiting.

Hundested was actually a large stone reef, which ranged from Spodsbjerg, across Halsnæs a long way out into the sea. Here lived a great number of seals and several earlier kings enjoyed hunting the animals.

The stones of the reef were later reduced and used for example the foundation of Trekroner Fort as well as several ports on the Sound coast. The reduction in the rock, increased erosion which the place around Spodsbjerg will show you.

In 1845, the lighthouse was just a solid, red light. This light has been hoisted on a flagpole. In 1865 a 5 meter high tower was built and a rotating light has been added. In 1907 the light tower has been increased to 9 meters. Also, a lens system has been added.

Today, the light house reaches, together with the height of the tower of 9 meters, a focus height of 40 meters.

The lighthouse was renovated in 2005.

In the middle of the beautiful area by Skansen in Hundested, a little north of Hundested Harbor is the iconic house, where Knud Rasmussen worked between his many expeditions in Greenland.

The house is the city's biggest attraction and today it serves as a museum and memorial room for the famous polar explorer. The polar researcher's workhouse in cottage style was built in 1917 according to drawings by architect Helge Bojsen-Møller.

The house is located on a large natural plot with a view of the Kattegat, in the northern outskirts of Hundested, close to Spodsbjerg Lighthouse. In good weather you can see all the way to Hesselø, which is approx. 26 km away.

In other words, there is good reason to take a walk in the magnificent landscape and look inside the unusual and atmospheric workhouse.

On the plot is also an impressive cairn in memory of Knud Rasmussen, built of stone from various localities in Greenland. The house has functioned as a memorial room and museum since 1939, when it with various contents was handed over to the public by widow, Dagmar. The house was ravaged by fire in 2011. Fortunately, both the house and contents could still be saved, but that meant that all the glory had to undergo an extensive restoration.

The incident gave rise to everything being thoroughly examined - from the nature of the floors and the colors of the walls to the affiliation of the exhibited objects to the house. The results were astonishing, and brought about major changes in the house - all to bring it closer to the expression that prevailed while Knud Rasmussen himself lived and worked on the site until he died in 1933. The secretary's room on the first floor is furnished as a study. , where you as a guest can immerse yourself in both Knud Rasmussen's own texts and a selection of the literature that exists about him.
