New England Clam Chowder Topped with Green Onions & Smoked Bacon in Splash Cafe Pismo Beach

Splash Cafe Pismo Beach is one of the oldest Pismo Beach Restaurants. A popular destination since 1989 and one of the busiest restaurants on the coast, we serve more Clam Chowder at this location in one year than most other Pismo Beach seafood Restaurants serve in their lifetime-over 30,000 gallons of Clam Chowder per year! This restaurant is a Pismo Beach landmark; it’s the place that truly represents Pismo Beach. You can order online and they will ship anywhere in the U.S.

I've only been to Pismo Beach a couple of times, but I've been amazed at this location. The clam chowder is supposed to be really good here and by looking at this line there must be some truth in it. During both of my trips to Pismo, I've seen a line of people patiently waiting for there turn to get inside of the restaurant. I can't tell you if the restaurant is really that good because I don't have the patience to wait in a line that long. Maybe one day it will be shorter.

Dinner here yesterday, fish and chips for me and clam chowder for my girl , yummy delicious

Long lines for clam chowder and fish tacos. Pismo Beach, California

Another road trip, before things get busy for us at work. Went up to the Monterey Aquarium. Sort of a request by Matthew, but doing central coast trips is also one of our favorite things to do, and we managed to camp this time (at San Simeon on the way up).

This is a somewhat famous place for clam chowder that we keep meaning to try. Finally went there on a somewhat quiet day on our way back home. Pismo is not a bad place to stay on a Sunday in October. Hotel was cheap and right next to the beach.

Chowder was awesome, by the way. So was everything else. Fish and chips, salmon sandwich, chicken fingers and grilled cheese sandwich. That is the rest of the family (including Lola Troll) waiting for our food in the front window.

Iconic restaurant in the coastal community of Pismo Beach, CA. Three bracketed shots tonemapped in Photomatix. Long exposure to make people and cars disappear. In response to Bill's comments, I have to qualify that the long exposure made the people and cars go away but NOT the car light trails. The lighting gave a fairly narrow dynamic range. I originally tried 5 bracketed shots but found I didn't need that many and 5 shots made it harder to have them all with no car lights in it. I was able to do 3 bracketed shots without cars going by.

Splash Café has been a favorite destination in Pismo Beach since 1989. Their casual beach-oriented cafe has been featured in several national publications and has received requests from Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines for their clam chowder recipe. They have served more than 20,000 gallons of their specialty clam chowder a year in the Pismo Beach café!

Driving home from a haircut this evening, when I stopped at an intersection and enjoyed the light from the Splash Cafe across the street. Fortunately, I had my X100S in the passenger seat, so it was easy enough to quickly grab it, flip the switch and fire off a shot. Added bonus, the exposure settings from yesterday night worked pretty well for this one.

I had to drive all the way to Pismo Beach to get a picture of a VW Bus

This small cafe just north of the pier draws a pretty big crowd!

It's supposed to be award winning, but it was just pretty normal to me. Very rich, but the flavors are pretty standard. I actually stood in line to get it, haha!

Haha, yes I did walk ALL THE WAY to the end of the Pismo Beach pier to just take this photo! It was really windy and I was worried the cup of chowder would fly away. It held steady, so I got my shot and quickly ran back, Hahahah! I ate next to the gift hut and got back on the road.

Eating a pint of creamy clam chowder at 9:15 a.m. has to equal the most guilty of pleasures.
