Die Oberbaumbrücke in Berlin ist aus meiner Sicht eines der schönsten Spree Überspannungen. Die Brücke Verbindet die Stadtteile Friedrichhain und Kreuzberg.
Zudem führt die U-Bahn über die Brück.
Sie war Teil vieler Spionage Filme.

The Glienicke Bridge played an important role during the Cold War as a site for exchanging spies between the Eastern and Western powers. It connects Berlin with Potsdam in Germany and was frequently used to exchange secret agents and spies during that time. The most famous exchange involved the Soviet spy Rudolf Abel and the American pilot Francis Gary Powers. As a result, the bridge became a symbol of the tensions and diplomatic negotiations between East and West during the Cold War.

Y los antiguos compañeros de armas fueron esta vez adversarios. Louis Fisher, uno de los biógrafos de Gandhi, escribe: "Un gran hombre es un hombre de una sola pieza, como todas las buenas estatuas. Churchill y Gandhi se parecían en que ambos consagraban su vida a una sola causa (...) Churchill era un Napoleón byroniano. Odiaba apasionadamente a las tiranías extranjeras que amenazaban a Inglaterra y dirigió contra ellas todo el fervor moral que podía generar su genio, pero no simpatizaba con la lucha de Gandhi contra la dominación inglesa. Hubiera muerto por mantener libre a Gran Bretaña, pero detestaba a los que querían ver libre a la India. Para él, los hindúes eran un pedestal del trono".

Dank Autorverse konnten auch längere Gespräche ohne Unterbrechung oder Bedienaktion aufgezeichnet werden. Dies prädestinierte ihn in Verbindung mit einer guten Tonqualität zum Einsatz durch private Ermittler – und vielleicht auch weniger private, wenn sie die auf kommerziell erhältliche Ausrüstung zurückgreifen wollten.

The OLYPMPUS Pearlcorder L400 from the 1980s was one of the smallest commercial tape recorders of its time (and maybe ever). Thanks to auto reverse, even longer conversations could be recorded without interruption or operator action. This, combined with good sound quality, predestined it for use by private investigators - and perhaps less private ones, if they preferred to use commercially available equipment.

The Glienicke Bridge over the Havel between Berlin and Potsdam connects the Königstraße (Berlin-Wannsee) with the Berliner Straße in the Berlin suburb of Potsdam in the course of the Bundesstraße 1. The state border between Brandenburg and Berlin and the city border with Potsdam run across the middle of the bridge. During the period of German division, the Glienicke Bridge gained worldwide fame through the third and final agent exchange spectacularly staged on 11 February 1986.

Quer über die Brückenmitte verläuft die Landesgrenze zwischen Brandenburg und Berlin bzw. die Stadtgrenze zu Potsdam. The railway bridge is carrying Littlemoor Lane over to what was Skitterick Quarry, Thorner, West Yorkshire. This was the Crossgates to Wetherby railway line axed by Beeching in 1964
Skitterick Quarry is to the right of the shot and has been grassed over now
You can see some of the upper stones on the bridge are missing. Local vandals are to blame for this damage.
Spion Kop can be seen through the bridge.

Happy Fence Friday (HFF)
Aalen became a free imperial city in 1360 and was severely damaged by fire in 1634. The old city hall dates from 1636, and is located at the marketplace (Marktplaz). The tower of the city hall hosts the figure of the Aalener Spion (spy) who, according to the legend, saved the city from the emperor army.
Fynn hiding behind a bush and spying on the dogs and their owners. He has made peace with the neighbour's dogs exept one who will probably always stay his enemy as he barks and barks as soon as he sees a cat. The others just come to the fence and look if the cats are around but usually stay quiet.

A little homage to John le Carré
(Note: The German title of le Carré's famous "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" is, as an allusion to the playing card sequence, "Dame König Ass Spion" (Queen King Ace Spy))
In the immediate vicinity of Neuschwanstein Castle, which I showed you this morning, there is another photographic treat: the Church of St. Coloman.
With its prominent location on a large meadow and the peaks of the Alps in the background, it's an extremely popular photo subject, and of course, I couldn't pass it by.
The place looks particularly beautiful shortly after sunset if you're lucky and the sky turns red or orange. As you can see, I was lucky.
The church's namesake, whom I admittedly had never heard of before, is said to have been an Irish prince who was captured near Stockerau (in present-day Austria) on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and executed in 1012.
The reason for his arrest was that, because of his strange appearance, he was mistaken for a Bohemian spy. Fortunately, such practices have since been abandoned in Austria.
So you can vacation there safely, even if you don't look like an Austrian.
In unmittelbarer Nähe des heute früh zeigten Schloss Neuschwanstein befindet sich noch ein weiterer fotografischer Leckerbissen, die Kirche des heiligen Coloman.
Mit ihrer exponierten Lage auf einer großen Wiese und den Gipfeln der Alpen im Hintergrund, ist sie ein äußerst beliebtes Fotomotiv, an dem ich natürlich auch nicht vorrüber gehen konnte.
Ganz besonders schön wirkt der Ort kurz nach Sonnenuntergang wenn man Glück hat und der Himmel sich rot oder orange verfärbt. Ich hatte, wie ihr sehen könnt, Glück.
Der Namensgeber der Kirche, von dem ich zugegebenermaßen vorher noch nie etwas gehört hatte, soll übrigens ein irischer Königssohn gewesen sein, der auf einer Pilgerreise ins Heilige Land bei Stockerau (im heutigen Österreich) gefangen genommen und im Jahr 1012 hingerichtet wurde.
Der Grund für seine Festnahme war, dass man ihn wegen seines fremdartigen Aussehens für einen böhmischen Spion gehalten hat.
Von derartigen Praktiken ist man in Österreich inzwischen zum Glück abgerückt. Ihr könnt also gefahrlos dort Urlaub machen, auch wenn Ihr nicht wie ein Österreicher ausseht.
Das UHER CR 210 stereo ist ein 4-Spur Kassettenrekorder der UHER-Werke München und wurde wohl von 1974-1979 produziert. Mit einem stattlichen Gewicht von 2kg nicht eben in Leichtbauweise hergestellt, war es dank professioneller Ausstattung und Funktionen wie Auto Reverse nicht nur ein Gerät für (gut betuchte) Privatanwender, sondern wurde auch im professionellen Bereich eingesetzt, etwa für Reportagen und Interviews, sowie bei Behörden und Geheimdiensten. Zu den Nutzern gehörte etwa das Ministerium für Staatssicherheit (MfS) – besser bekannt als Staatssicherheitsdienst (Stasi) - der früheren Deutschen Demokratischen Republik (DDR). Zwei Geräte dieses besonderen Vorbesitzers nannte der Sekretär einmal sein Eigen, doch sie waren erheblich modifiziert worden und recht verschlissen. Dieses gebraucht erstandene Exemplar hatte vermutlich eine gänzlich ziviles Vorleben.

The UHER CR 210 stereo is a 4-track cassette recorder of the UHER-Werke Munich and was probably produced from 1974-1979. With a stately weight of 2kg not exactly manufactured in lightweight construction, it was thanks to professional features and functions such as Auto Reverse not only a device for (well-heeled) private users, but was also used in the professional field, such as for reports and interviews, as well as by authorities and intelligence services. The users included, for example, the Ministry for State Security (Ministerium für Staaatssicherheit, MfS) - better known as the State Security Service (Staatssicherheitsdienst, Stasi) - of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). Secretary once called two devices from this particular pre-owner his own, but they had been significantly modified and were quite worn out. This specimen, purchased second-hand, probably had a wholly civilian past life.

Also wenn ich das nächste mal an der Erdfunkstelle Fuchsstadt vorbei komme, wird wohl Hubert Kah durch's Auto klingen :-)
Die Erdfunkstelle Fuchsstadt mit ihren 50 Parabolantennen dient als Bodenstation für die Kommunikation mit Nachrichtensatelliten und ermöglicht unter anderem satellitengestützte Telefongespräche, Internet-Verbindungen und Fernsehsendungen. Bis in die 1990er Jahre war Fuchsstadt ein bedeutender Knotenpunkt des weltweiten Kommunikationsnetzes; diese Bedeutung ist verloren gegangen, weil inzwischen der ganz überwiegende Teil des kontinentalen und interkontinentalen Nachrichtenaustauschs über Glasfaserkabel abgewickelt wird. Trotzdem ist die Anlage eine der größten Satelliten-Kommunikationsanlagen der Welt.

Tofu may not be the most active cat but he is an excellent spy. He knows exactly what the neighbours are doing in their gardens and I'm pretty sure that he knows every bird in our area.

This is Tofu when he thinks that nobody will be able to see him while he is watching everything going on in his garden or the neighbourhood. :)
Yesterday I had a meeting with an Instagram group. We were invited by the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. We visited a lot of beautiful old fortresses. At the end of the day we ended at the Loenderveense Plas looking at Fort Spion hoping for some sunset colors. If you ever have the chance, go see some of these beautiful old buildings and let them overwhelm you. De Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie is nominated for the Unesco World Heritage list in 2020.
