Various drop spindles I use for spinning

Part 1. "Transit of Venus" - Bocote (Mexican Rosewood), Pu-Yok - Lace Sheeoak, "Southern Cross" - Pacific Blackwood (Queen Ebony, Tubi)

Taken at Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire. No, not a spider web but in fact the web of the spindle ermine moth caterpillar, which coccoons its chosen food plant and munches away in safety!

The fiber on the spindle is a merino/tencel blend from Spincerely yours on etsy. The scarf is being knit with bfl singles spun from spunky ecelectic bfl in the color brain freeze.

Manufacturer unknown. Wood types unknown. Purchased at LYS.

Yarn is Navajo plied roving from an Etsy seller in New Brunswick.

The spindle Evan got me for my 23rd birthday. It's a Jenkins turkish delight in Canary. It weighs .81 oz or 23g.

gift from teabird; shadow likes it. fibre is unknown $2 from briar rose fibres, purchased at rhinebeck 2009 (i'll get around to checking staple length some day)

Spindle in flower

Loved it. Different, not better or worse than a spinning wheel. All spinners should try it. Plus, I think it is actually easier to ply using the drop spindle than a wheel.

My class spindle purchased during lessons with Diane Mulholland. Spindle is made from Cherry - not sure what wood the shaft is made from.
