12 gram Lilac Kuchulu with Kingwood Shaft. It spins like a dream! The fiber on it was a sample included with the spindle, targhee wool (mountain top) from sweetgrasswool. Yummy stuff to spin.

I think this is the bad thing about a drop spindle, the spindle is already full and heavy and I only have spun half of the mohair.

Learning how to use my tibetan spindle. The spindle is gorgeous! It's a Tibetan Lite spindle with spindle bowl from Grizzly Mountain Arts. The fiber on the spindle is Ashland Bay Merino in Pine. It's been sitting around awhile so it became my test subject for learning. :)

Hedgerow Harvest

Beautiful pink and orange seed of the spindle. This was growing in a hedgerow by the M11 motorway. The people whizzing by had no idea of the parallel world beside them.

Finding myself at Maker Faire with some roving, but no spindle or wheel to spin it, I sent Mr. Whamodyne out on a hunt for two things: Something stick-like, and something round and weighty. Here's the drop spindle that he came back with. (It's made of printer parts!)

Did it work? Yes indeed! It's rather heavy, and a bit unbalanced, but it *will* spin. I added a rubber band to the top later on to keep my half hitch from sliding off of the shaft, and eventually switched to spinning supported.

Spindle Tree Flowers

This is my homemade spindle #1. It is a mini spindle, really. I am spinning some raw fiber here. I think it's alpaca, but it was in a bag of unmarked fiber so I'm not sure. The yarn is very fuzzy. The spindle is made from an antique bone crochet hook and a bead. It works!
